  1. The little Mrs. :babe: Ok'd the new chain so I called my friends at the local motorcycle accessory shop and told him what I could order the DID chain kit for. He told me that he could match that with no problem plus could do the install for me. I don't have the chain tools to install it. If any of you are ever in Jackson Mississippi and need a part or a flat fixed or new tire, go by The Kickstand on hwy 80 in Jackson. The are great people and dyed in the wool bike riders. The Veterns were on their Ride To The Wall and stopped at the Harley dealership in Jackson for the day. One of them had a tire going bad. Well the Harley dealership DIDN"T have a tire to fit his hog so they sent him to the Kickstand and they replaced his tire and got him back on the road in time to leave with the group. Anyone headed through Jackson Ms. in the near future, let me know and I'll give directions.
  2. Will the Honda service dept. install tapered bearings if asked to do so or do I need to buy the bearings myself and have them install them? If I need to buy the bearings myself, where can I get them and are they a lot more expensive than stock bearings? I have the same wobble as stated above even after the new tires went on. I did do a wheel alingment and it did help, but only marginally :???:
  3. AHHH, I remember reading that. Thanks for the remind. Now I need to sweet talk the little Mrs.:babe: a.k.a. Keeper Of The Finances to get a new chain kit expedited to our humble abode.
  4. Looks like most in here like the DID 530 ZVM. I plan on keeping the stock gearing. Quality wise, is DID comparable to the RK chain? XXTi wrote "the ZVS is not identical to the ZVM. Don't ask me how I know. " SO, what IS the difference between the ZVS and the ZVM???? Crap, you said don't ask, Sorry.
  5. I'm in the market for a new chain and sprockets and was wanting opinions on what brand you guys recomend. I have a 99XX. It came with a RK 530 from the factory. My bike has 17000+ miles on it, 90% two-up riding. After a trip to Talladega Alabama (I live just outside Jackson Ms.) last year I noticed a couple of links that were wanting to bind just a bit. Before the trip I cleaned and lubed the chain as part of my pre-trip ritual. We went to the NASCAR race and had to sit in a bit of traffic upon entering the track. The air temp was upper 80s. Bike was warm, not hot from the trip. Temp guage went up to about 3/4. After parking I did a quick check of the bike and noticed the chain lube was pretty thin looking ie. wet looking. After the race, I checked it again. It looked as if the lube had thickened up a bit. Back at home I recleaned and lubed the chain since it got pretty dirty at the track in the unpaved parking area. Shortly after I noticed the sticking links. Could the trip there and back, a large portion of the trip was at 100+mph, started doing my chain in?? What chain do most riders in here use. I would like to change sprockets too. They don't look bad but want to change them for peace of mind. What chain lube do most use? I keep close check on chain adjustment and I use Maxxim Chain Wax. Any help/suggestions will be appreciated.
  6. I do very few wheelies and when I do one it is normally a power wheelie with wheel low to the ground. There is a slight bump when I rotate the bars from side to side with the front end in the air. It is very slight, but it is there. I checked it yesterday. Now what? Is replacing the bearings as straight forward as it appears or are there some hidden obsticals I really need to look for other than the obvious? I know I need to change them, just need to know what I'm getting into. Thanks guys. Rider99XX
  7. Mine too. The service dept. at my dealershhip told me they had a service bulletin about the ground wires.
  8. My XXs ground wires on the frame just behind the tank were not making good contact. Everything looked nice and clean, no corrosion, but wasn't making good contact. The bike was only a week old and the battery was going down pretty fast and the fuel gauges were fluctuating like O.J. Simpson's heart during his trial. I called my dealer, Honda Of Laurel, Laurel Mississippi (GREAT DEALER) they told me just what to do. Remove the bolt holding the ground wires and scrape the area where the wires contact the frame, clean the wire terminals and bolt everything back down tight. Presto, it worked like a charm. Not sure if it will help your situation but it is something simple and quick to try. There is another grounding point up in the nose of the bike, that is another place to look. Hope it helps
  9. When I sit on the bike and hold the fron brake, then try to rock the bike back and forth, there is a slight amount of movement just below the upper triple clamp where the dust shield and the steering head meet. I haven't tried to do that with the bars turned one way or the other. That might be that notch RoadRash is talking about. Could all the two up riding I do( my better half likes to ride...ALOT) have any effect on those bearings? About 98% of the miles on my XX are with her onboard and she is not a large person at all. I'm in the market for a new chain. Any suggestions????
  10. I would like to know the procedure for changing the bearings just for my peace of mind. Are there any major things to look out for other than the obvious? Any hints. Anything?? :loony:
  11. I first noticed the shake about 200 to 300 miles before I replaced the Dunlop D207 tires. The shake cleared up about 98% after the new tires. I put Dunlop D220 back on to try and get a little more milage. I'll give up a little performance for the milage. I pulled the top triple clamp off and tightened the nut up just a little and it seemed to help some but I can still feel some shake through the bars. I have had a couple of hard wheelie landings but it's been about a year ago. I don't do too many wheelies anyway. I've never hit a curb or any pot holes. Right before this tire change the shake got pretty bad, especially while slowing down. It started when the D207s started going away and got somewhat better with the new tires. Appreciate the input guys.
  12. I need to change the steering head bearings on my 99XX. Any help would be appreciated. The bike has 17,000 miles on it with most of those miles riding two up. I've been through most other things on my XX except those bearings. I have a very slight head shake at slower speeds (25-40)mph. I just put new tires on less than 500 miles ago. Wheel bearings, front and rear checked out OK. I hope replacing those bearings will cure the shake. Rider99XX Any one here from Mississippi?
