Start bike, put gloves and helmet on, and take off, no heavy engine loads or high rpm until engine temperature stabilizes, then go like mad.

I think 7500 is a reasonable wear lifetime for a rear tire on a roadbike, especially if the tire performs well overall.

That 208 will be just a memory in less than 2000 miles. The Avons appear to be the latest thing, but does anyone have any review on the Avon's wet weather grip? I can already attest to the Michelin's performance in that department.

Don't feel bad, Don. Been there, done that. More times than I can count.

I've used the Honda HP4 with moly, and without, with no slippage issues, but I don't dog the clutch that hard either. The only thing I really notice is that the bike always runs better when the oil is fresh, but maybe it's all in my head....

I have the pilot sports mounted on my 'Bird right now as well.

I'm currently running a set of the Pilot Roads, just not on the Blackbird (they're on a '96 K1100RS). I have about 4K miles on them, and expect about 8K miles on the rear, maybe 12 out of the front before replacement. They have so far been a good compromise between wear and grip, and have stayed in balance. I would not hesitate to run them again.

I admit it's pretty bizarre, but I've heard of much worse. He's not trying to acquire a replacement ECU under warranty, just a replacement ECU, period. The Honda dealer quoted him a price of $780.00 for a new one. Talk about shock and awe...hence my question about salvaged/used ones.

I honestly don't know. From what little information he's given, it appears he bought the bike from someone who campaigned it as a dragbike. In any event, the combination of tire selection and rear suspension settings had allowed the rear tire to abrade through the rear fender liner and get to the ECU....

I got an email message over the weekend from someone visiting the board (turboxx, perhaps?) requesting assistance in troubleshooting EFI diagnostic codes. His efforts led him to the discovery that the ECU is in need of replacement. Does anyone have any leads on a serviceable used/salvaged ECU (2002 XX)?

You might try a set of the Pilot Roads.
