  2. The main thing to remember is that the front reservoir only feeds the front outer pistons. All the centre pistons and the rear outers are fed from the rear reservoir.

I think I got that part. I was able to bleed both bleeders on the front calipers, one from the front brake lever and the other from the rear breake pedal. I was also able to bleed the front bleeder on the rear caliper with the foot pedal. What I couldn't do was bleed the rear bleeder on the rear caliper, and I see that I need to lift the front left caliper to do that.

  3. His is a 98 like mine.

we don't have the rubber damping in the trans like 99 and newer does.

Set the idle at 1100 rpm, you'll still get a kerchunk but not as bad.

BTW nice stable of bikes. wish I had an ST1300 also. Almost traded for one last fall, can't have both bikes.

Thanks, here's a shot four of them. The ST is an awesome one up touring bike, but the wife says a wing is in our future.

  4. Good original condition. Shows some wear, but nothing major. It was down on its right side sometime in the past and the right chrome engine guard, right saddle bag, and right rear turn signal are scratched (see pics) All original except for 150 mph speedo (off 1979 CBX), heated grips, and steel braided brake hoses. Has a good set of original pipes off a school bike (expensive!), Starts and runs good. Comes with extra saddle bag, another set of pipes (loud), a new valve cover gasket, and some misc hardware.

  5. I got over 40 mpg (close to 45) riding from Florida to Texas. I rode between 70 and 80 most of the way and its a totally stock bike with just a tank bag and backpack.

Jetting makes a big difference in fuel milage. I bought a 1983 CB1100F that had a stage 1 dynajet kit in it and it only got about 25 mpg. I put the stock jets and needles back in it and it went up to nearly 40. Ran better too.

  6. 1100 RPM +/- 100 RPM.

I run mine around 1300 to 1400. It keeps the clutch basket a little quieter.

Oh and there's a small black knob sticking out just above the front sprocket cover. Turn that to adjust idle.

Okay, thanks. I guess I'll leave it there then. It just makes a pretty good clunk when you put it into first at that speed.

  7. The Bird idles at 13-1400 rpm which seems a little high--what is normal idle speed? I haven't gotten the service manual yet, so some instruction about adjusting it would help too.

    thanks

  8. When I rode the BB home from Florida it was cool and raining. The temp gauge hung below the white square on the guage for most of the trip. Now that I'm back in Texas it stays up in the middle around town and then drifts down toward the "C" when I'm out on the road. Shouldn't the needle stay in the same position most of the time as the thermostat regulates coolant through the radiator to maintain an even temp? I know the ST has thermostat issues and wondered if the BB did too.
