  1. I set of gently used 2 Bros C/F C5 (oval) slipons. Only used to ride to church on Sundays...

Seriously tho, I had these on my 97 for about 5K miles or so, then sold the bike & bought an '02 back in '07 that came with a Scorpion system. These have been sitting in my garage ever since. Great shape, great sound.

    $350 shipped in CONUS.

    Thanks.

  2. I recently adjusted my chain, and now notice I hear a clicking noise bouncing back at me whenever I go thru a set of twisties on the highway. The bike seems to track straight, but the only thing I could think of that would cause this was wheel misalignment & resulting chain/sprocket noise.

I bought the cheapo Motion Pro wheel alignment tool (the one with a long straight rod with a base that clamps to your sprocket) today, and the alignment seems about as good as I'll get it.

Any clue what else may be causing this noise? Is it normal? (am I paranoid???) I only hear it when I'm riding in close proximity to a median barrier or road guard where the sound bounces back at me.

  3. Thanks for the help/info guys.

When finesse & dexterity are required (like when removing a drain plug, trying to get a missing washer on it, and reinserted before the bike bleeds out...), I'm Edward SkilletHands, so think I'll walk your path & just keep an eye on her.

    Preesh!

I've done the same thing as you. Once I lost the washer in the oil an didn't notice I had no issues without it I just put it back on next oil change.

Just make sure your not dripping oil from the drain plug, I cleaned the area with WD40 and kept a eye on it but never lost a drop.

  4. So this was the weekend I finally got around to changing the oil in both the XX and the trans am. Thought I had everything done, and was emptying the dirty oil into a receptacle, when I noticed a metal washer in the bottom of the drain pan. Rather than play synthetic oil roulette and take a guess, can anyone tell my if the XX using a rather thick metallic washer on the oil drain plug???

    TIA

  5. So an older friend of mine is in town, and he's never ridden on a motorcycle. I'm about 250, he's probably 225ish.

My 02 has a penske basic shock, and new pirelli strada tires.

Think I'll squash my bike if I take him for a ride???

    TIA

  6. So I've got my 97 torn down for maintenance, and I just replaced the plugs, but now she doesn't wanna fire. The left ign coil feeds cyls 1&4, the right one 2&3, right??? I checked my Haynes manual, but just wanna double check.

    TIA

  7. I have a 95 CBR900RR shock and an 1100 lb Hypercoil spring (not mounted, unit still has stocker spring), but it's back home in CO, and I'm currently in WA. The reservoir has been discharged-can either find a svc place that has a chamber, or buy an end cap with a schrader valve. I wound up going with a Penske.

I'll be back in CO in a couple of weeks, if anyone's interested.

  8. Hmmm...good point. The exhaust has a dual outlet muffler on the pax side, so kinda hard to hear. Other than that, on the road, the d@mn thing WON'T accelerate.

Like I said, I've about convinced myself that I just need to bite the bullet, hand over the wallet, and replace the whole exhaust & pull the tank.

Thx & keep the info coming!

  9. Eric-

    Thanks. And DAMMIT!!!

I spoke with Mile-Hi muffler before I left CO, and they said they had a similar truck with similar problems in earlier, and it turned out to be fuel related. Starting to think I should just bite the bullet, replace the cat/exhaust, and pull the tank, just cuz they're all suspect, and probably need attention anyway.

  10. I'm back in WA now, had to leave the truck back in CO (if anyone would like to steal it, lemme know, and I'll put full coverage on it. Just don't plan on a "quick getaway").

Good info guys--I appreciate all the hints. Hopefully, I'll be back in CO for good inside of a month.

My hopes when buying the truck were that the previous owners had replaced pretty much everything that typically goes wrong, and that I'd be getting the "6 million dollar truck" for a good price. Now I'm just hoping that all the replaced parts aren't at the end of their lifespan.

  11. I just bought a 94 chevy 2500 4x4 truck with a 350/manual with 180K on her. I'll be redoing my basement soon and need a heavy duty winter vehicle anyway, since I live on an unmaintained mountain road.

You could eat off the engine, and the owners seemed to have fixed things as they occurred (ie, they didn't run it into the ground). The engine starts, idles, and runs fine, and doesn't smoke/drink oil, but going uphill this thing feels like it couldn't pull the petals off a daisy. It's a 3 sp with OD + a granny gear, and going uphill, I can barely maintain speed in third. The plugs/wires/cap are all new, the air filter is pristine, and I'm currently running a bottle of SeaFoam thru the fuel system.

Keep in mind, I live at 8500' ASL, but even down in the city, this thing couldn't pass much. The odd thing is that it idles smoothly, doesn't stumble, or have any other problems that seem to narrow causes down for me. My thoughts:

Restrictive catalytic converter (not clogged, but restricted)

    Bad EGR valve

    Bad vapor canister

One of the last things the owner said was a comment about how it didn't feel like it had the power to pass that it usually did.

Any ideas on what might be causing this, and what quick checks I could do to test it???

  12. Definitely reduces heat wash to your legs in city driving, also drops operating temp a bit. That heat winds up in your cans though, so if you're running c/f mufflers in the heat (say AZ, or CA), you might cook 'em. If you've got metal cans, gotta make sure any luggage doesn't contact them.

No noticeable power increase. Mine has a nickel based ceramic that looks great. Cost me 100 bucks and 3 days at Airborne Coatings in OKC. I'd do it again.
