  1. I have a 2002 xx That I have not started it in almost 3 years I changed the oil before I stored it & want to rid it now, I put 15k my first year but don"t want to fuck anything up before I fire it up.

all imput would be great, heath reasons put it in storage :icon_shocked: now Im ready to ride

I heard of a better coolant to put in the bike any imput would be :icon_mrgreen:

Why hasn't anyone stated the obvious?

    Sell it!

  2. Hey Marc the stranger... busy bee? :icon_wave:

Hey Ruhi! I have been way to busy. I still get to read the forum some of the time. I put on new tires in May and have less than 1k miles on them. I have also been splitting my time with hiking. So far this summer I have hiked Half Dome, Mt. Baldy, San Gogornio, San Jacinto and two weekends ago the highest peak in the lower 48 Mt Whitney.

Say Hi to Julie for me. Hope you are enjoying Joisey.

  3. I always have the clutch in when I start the bike. How do I hold the clutch in, depress the starter switch and turn the key at the same time?

Aw screw it, I just let the bulb warm up for a little bit before I start it.

  4. It may be worth asking him to pay return shipping at least.

Ha! Good luck with that. One of their guys called (not Klaus) and wanted a credit card number.

I asked for what (because I had a sneaking suspicion that he was going to try and charge me for the rebuild) and sure enough the guy on the phone said:

    "For the shock rebuild"

I said it was covered under warantee and asked to speak with Klaus.

Not likely that they will pay shipping.

  5. I spoke with Klaus this morning and my shock has been rebuilt. He didn't give me any difinitive explanation as to what failed but said that it may have been any one of a number of seals that could have failed.

So after spending some $70 on shipping it there and back I get a newly rebuilt shock that I will be keeping my eye on for a while.

  6. Klaus has already responded to my e-mail so I am optimistic that this will be hanlded without any problems. Here is what he had to say:

    Hi Marc,

I am sorry to hear about this problem. Our 5 year warranty will cover

    the

repair and replacement of parts, you are responsible for the shipping

    back

    and forth.

I have read the thread on the list and thank you for forwarding it to

    me. I

certainly do want to hear about any problems with the products I am

    selling.

The seal-block - referred to as the shock bottom end, is a wear part

    and

does fail sometimes and one of several reasons (O-ring failure, Teflon

lining failure, support ring failure, lip-seal failure, assembly error

    when

the seal-block is put together and finally a mistake when the shock is

assembled). I am selling the shocks since Nov. of 01 and have approx 15

    - 20

    seal-blocks replaced because of leakage.

Had I heard from the chap in Australia I would have sent him a new

    block at

least - understanding that the shipping back and forth is about the

    same of

what he paid to have it repaired. However, the shop in Australia could

    have

    handled it under warranty.

  7. Thank you, seems almost obvious upon further inspection.

The stator was indeed fried and is now fixed.

Unfortuantely after following the troubleshooting guide which indicated that it was a failed R/R I now have a spare, nearly brand new, '03 R/R which I ran on the bike for ~15 seconds (long enough to figure out that that wasn't the source of low voltage).

  8. Sometimes I'll put the bird back together and notice I don't have the ram air snorkel lined up properly with the hole in the nose. I simply put my hand in the hole in the nose and pushed and wiggled the snorkel until it popped into place.

I tried all that wiggling and jiggling and couldn't get it to budge. I had to remove the cowl from the lowers and the upper support stays to get it to pop back in.

Also, that little hatch under the chin pops in and out easily and with it out it makes a convenient little hole for you to line the ducts up with the intake holes.
