Just checked mileage got 20 mpg from a full tank and the bike never went over 7000rpm for the entire tank. I checked my oil and noticed that is smelled very strong of gasoline. I have a new K&N (6mo, 2500 miles) and a set of erion slip ons. Help,

2002 XX FI

is it running OK? I mean, does it bog or lose a cylinder if you're at idle for a long time? I'm asking because I've had that happen on my Nighthawk and it ended up being a float that wouldn't close the needle and seat completely...

do you have a Power Commandor?

If no: I have seen on some FI bikes, that when you free up the intake and exhaust with the factory injection, it just richens it WAY up

If Yes: Have you tried re-loading your map, or loading a "generic" map?

I know Rich (Hobicus) doesn't have a PC, but has slip-ons and a K&N, and he hasn't complained about mileage... actually sounds like it's got a bit of a lean spot around 3k...

One more thing... Is your bike a cali bike? I mean, does it have an O2 sensor? If so, your O2 sensor may be bad, telling the ECM it's lean, all the time...

it's a florida bike, seems to be running ok just down on power...a little rough below 4k sounds like an occasional miss when not acccelerating (high vaccum miss) I'm going to order new plugs today and maybe loose the K&N see what happens

I've found that on a bike this powerful, when it's "a little down on power" enough to feel it, you're probably only running on 3 cylinders... When you change your plugs, there will probably be one that's wet.

on the pc tables the mp table change the numbers for columns 0,2,5 to -30 up to 2000 rpm

... on my '99, but it came on more quickly... ran poorly, horrible mileage, finally losing fire entirely in #2 & #3. I'm thinking (groan) ECM issues...

After much anguish and frustration it turned out to be compromised integrity of the fuel pressure regulator diaphragm (the regulator is mounted on the right side end of the fuel rail). The originally small perforation allowed an escalating volume of fuel to enter the vacuum line system which initially over richened #2 & #3. But over time the hole got bigger, thus fouling those two plugs... leaving me running on two cylinders (#1 & #4). After a few days of seemingly endless troubleshooting and utter frustration, I took it to the Honda shop. A very sharp tech finally caught the problem (after fully flooding the cases...) - and get this - it was fully covered under Honda's 5-year emmissions warranty... (whew)
