  1. Oh, the nosecone was broken in a couple of places actually, and ground down quite a bit as well. That and there was quite a bit ground on the front fender, side cowling, and the left mirror. It was a LOT easier to just replace the plastic completely. Insurance company provided the cash, so why not. I wasn't looking for a pay day, I just wanted her to be as pretty as she was before she experienced gravity.
  2. I really appreciate the feedback, thanks guys! The insurance company just came back and they deemed my bird a total loss. OK, after the first moment of some choice expletives directed at the insurance company (Mentally, not verbally!) I calmly told the adjuster that I had no interest in letting her go to salvage. After all was said and done it came down to them giving me $3600.00 after they had taken out the deductible and the money they would have gotten from salvage. Below is the bulk of the damage done to her in the accident. I just attached a picture of the damage done to her in the spill. I had a repair estimate done at the dealership and have found that for $2600.00 I can get the OEM pieces (nosecone, lower left fairing, clutch cover, and left mirror assembly) plus the other things that I want to have replaced like the heated handgrips, Throttlemeister bar ends, and a replacement Givi E360 saddle bag. All the labor can be done by me, so that will save some cash as well. Looks like I will not need Hong Kong replacements after all, and I'm really happy for that! Hard to believe she hit the ground at 55mph, and 2. Considered a total loss by the insurance company.
  3. I just biffed it on the highway at approximately 55mph. Went down on the left side and am concerned that the bike will be totaled by the insurance company. I did get back on her and rode another 1500 or so miles before taking her to the dealership for an estimate. $4500 and change was the estimate so I'm looking at some cost saving alternatives that may be out there. I've see a thread on after market plastic, but it was inconclusive. Has anyone had any luck with good stuff off of Ebay or any other service? If so, I'm definitely looking for some reviews! Lord knows that I cannot replace my 01 Red XX for one that has been as well maintained as mine. Thanks in advance guys, I REALLY appreciate it!
  4. I installed a Corbin Gunfighter and Lady saddle on mine recently. All I can say is that I was a fool for waiting to do so. The difference is night and day, and having just come from a 790mile trip (one way), I can honestly say my backside was not an issue. The seat is worth every penny spent...and there were quite a few pennies! I can recommend it without reservation!
  5. I would like to update my post. In Germany I was running the red oil, and it was perfect. Here in the USA I have only found the standard oil and it runs too quickly. Needed to get some red in her to work properly. The thing rocks though!
  6. I am on my second Bird, and my second bagster cover. My original bird was a 98 that I picked up when I lived in Germany. The cover was awesome then, and I still love the thing on my new bird. I had to sell the German model when I got to the states because I couldn't drive it under 120mph to save my life. After Iraq I got another one and am very satisfied. The only difference is that now the covers have CBR embroidered in the side. I take mine off about every other cleaning to wash under the cover and re-wax the tank. I've had NO difficulties with mine so far and I've used it for several years now. Ordering stateside will be slow, but it will come. I had my in-laws send me one from Germany and I already had the same bag pictured above. It is expandable, and moves easilly when you need to fill the tank. The map case in the top is a pain unless you have something in the bag, and then it holds it straight well enough. It even has a plastic cover that pulls out from the bottom in the case of rain, so it is actually pretty damned nice. I get compliments on the tank cover all the time as well, so it's not just my sense of asthetics that appreciates it. I fully recommend it, but get a bag from Bagster that fits it as well. The thing is designed to accomodate the models made by Bagster.
  7. Holy crap, I don't get but about 150 out of mine before the light is coming on. How the heck are you guys getting 200 miles out of your bike before thinking of refueling? I must be crazy hard on the throttle or something. I do think she is burning a little rich though as after about 300 miles I do notice a discoloration at the end of the exhaust pipes. I was considering a Power Comander III USB to rectify that issue.
  8. I've got one on my 01, and had one on my 98 before I sold her. Of course I was living in Germany when I put that on there, but it is fantastic. The chain is easy to maintain, and you NEVER hear it when you are rolling because it is really well lubed. I also don't get chain wax flung all over the place. It's really a nice addition.
  9. OK, this cover takes a while to order in, but it's awesome. I have one for my Bird, and it accepts a custom tank bag with full tank coverage for protection from scratches and sun fading. I don't have a picture of it on my bike available now, but here is a link to see what the cover looks like off the bike. They now have CBR embroidered on the side and it looks pretty cool.
