  1. i've had one of my 2 torsion springs break twice since 2001.  it's barely a 2 car garage with a single door.  without springs or counterweights, they're heavier than you'd think.

nice thing about having 2 springs is that you can add enough tension to the remaining spring to lift the door until you're able to replace both of them.

1st time i made the mistake of ordering a beefier spring, thinking that would make an easier job for the opener...  wound up not having enough oomph to close the damn door...  get the same size springs!

not a bad d.i.y., just be very methodical as you're winding the new springs.

i should remember to wrap an old pant leg or something around the springs next time.  when they go, they fling grease all around...

$475 for same day service?  'bout what you'd expect.

  2. i'm wondering if my perception that more people "flying off the handle" at the slightest provocation is true;

Lead exposure can create learning disabilities and challenges that affect children's executive functioning, impulse control and levels of aggression. These conditions are often irreversible and, studies find, may impact the likelihood of learning and behavioral difficulties, violence, and crime in adulthood.

generations of kids now becoming adults, who were never told no?

more cameras in more places capturing what's always been happening?

doesn't help that my job is dealing with the transit riding public...  "what do you mean i can't get my free pass now?!  i'm disabled!"...  at times, i question if there are any able bodied, sane people left in this town...

  3. i put gtr h7's in my blackbird and they're awesome.  fit was a bit fidly, with the retainer wire but, if some asshole refuses to dim their brights, i can see the color of their shirt!

auxito h7's in 2 mercedes (w210 & now w211) had a bit of scatter in the w211, that oncoming drivers let me know about, i've since lowered the aim a bit and i'm no longer the "asshole"...

What Yoshi? IIRC they had two types of cans, street legalish Zyclone with clever inner tapered tube, and straight thru RS-3 race baffle. The latter obviously being louder.

My XX had full system RS3 with titanium oval can. Was not too bad, certainly not obnoxious.

IIRC Erion with it's smallish round cans was rather on loud side of aftermarket cans spectrum.

not sure, here's a pic.  google searching makes me think rs3.  they're on the mild side of aftermarket exhaust noise.

as that erion system was only $300 on flea bay, i jumped on it.

  5. i remember hearing their cans are loud.  will it be too much compared to my current yoshi slip-ons?

bike's an '01 with the o2 and pair delete.  i have a pc3 that's yet to be installed.

  6. cheap harbor freight plastic welder comes with stainless steel screen.  melt that into the back side of that crack.

here's a clip that illustrates but, you don't really need the extra plastic, just use the welder to push the screen into the plastic surrounding the crack.

  7. stock gearing.  my apologies on the fpr update mistake.  i was referring to the higher pressure for the 01-03 bikes (which mine is).

i should also mention all 3 of my birds ('97 jetted & full yoshi, '00 stock & my current '03 with yoshi slip ons) have had similar fuel economy.

  8. 25-30 mpg on my regular commute, with full throttle pulls getting onto the freeway, traffic permitting.  low 40's when riding sedately in a group on the highways.  been like this for several years.

been awhile since i checked the fpr, which i upgraded a few years back.

fan comes on around at around 220 degrees.  know the part# for the ecu temp sensor?

  9. does the temperature sensor also feed information to the digital guage?  in other words, there's only 1, correct?

apologies to the o.p. for piggybacking...  my bird's always gotten horrible fuel mileage unless i'm riding like a granny...

  10. i've had these in my blackbird for a few years now and love 'em.  very sharp cut-off like the halogens, just way brighter.  when someone's driving around with their brights at night and i "fight fire with fire", i can see the color of their shirts!

installation was a bit of a pain until i figured out to unscrew the retainer wire and i had to make a spacer out of pvc for a snug fit.

  11. for car / motorcycle camping, i like to cook soups (split pea with ham, potato leek etc.), vacuum package and freeze.  they keep your beer cold on the way to an easy meal, just boil water.

an adaptable technique for things like corned beef and cabbage (heating the bagged roast while boiling the potatoes & cabbage) and home made beef patties and rice for loco mocos, all well received by hungry biker buddies!
