  1. Good stuff on the etymology of yunz and yinz. I grew up in the Chicago suburbs, but I've been here in North Carolina for many years. I thought I'd throw in a yunz for fun. I use yall, you all, and even all yall from time to time. Fortunately, I still sound like a Yankee. 😉 A lot of NC natives lack any trace of accent, which surprised me at first. Googus' black '03 is a dandy, but it's set up for a 140 lb rider. That won't stop me, but it will eventually add to the cost. Suspension upgrade from DMr Motorsport. Sweet!
  2. Thanks for the helpful input all of yunz. My EBR SX is the rare Laguna Blue color. Only 50 made, 154th off of the production line in Wisconsin. Very active and supportive owner's group. Most of the bugaboos are clearly understood now. Mine has about 10K miles, and it needs some work, but it runs great and it's a great play bike for a younger rider. I have soft luggage for it. I need to sell partly because I have arthritis in my hips. I need something that I can enjoy without standing up on the pegs every 20 minutes. I'll contact Googus for sure. It'd be great to find a relatively local Bird.
  3. Hello there and Happy New Year to all of you flyers of the Bird. I'm still in the market for the XX of my dreams. I still have the 2014 EBR 1190 SX, which is running just fine. I would be willng to trade. The EBR is a great bike, but I'm a rider, not a wrencher. Been looking all over for an XX, still only had the one decent lead. Just saw a new black '03 on the .com site in suburban Chicago. $6K is pretty high, but it might be worth a one-way rental car ride from here in central NC. Ring me up or text me if you're thinking of selling. 919-413-3118
  4. More great insights, many thanks to you, Rock. I hadn't seen all of that. Probably not a bad bike, but less to love, and less faith in the seller. k
  5. Thanks much for the excellent input (e)XX(c)ite, Sierra, and Superhawk. Maybe I can return the favor sometime. I'm a lot more concerned about condition than price. And I don't want to rush into anything. I saw that Heli bars (which retain the stock cables) only have provide an 1.5" of rise. The photos do seem to be higher than that. There's no question that the owner will sell the bike at that price. I won't ask him to lower the price, because he has already spent $1,000.00 on it. I asked the guy if he could go out and start the bike, so that I could listen to it. He came back with taking the bike to his Honda mechanic so that I could listen to it there, and talk to the mechanic about the condition of the bike. The mechanic had recommended a full fluid change, but the owner opted for an oil change only. I'd be more comfortable with a bike that was being ridden regularly. Sierra, did you hear that someone just got 273 electoral votes? 😉 k
  6. Hello SIerra and Fellow Threadistas. I appear to have found a candidate FI Titanium. https://monterey.craigslist.org/mcy/d/seaside-2002-honda-cbr1100xx-blackbird/7222800536.html The seller seems legit. His father in law died and he's trying to unload the Bird. 28K miles, recently serviced, "EC", recent minor dealer service (oil, chain tension). The owner was an avid mechanic, which is always good to hear. The bike did sit for a year or so, but it's apparently in good running condition now. Possible oddities, advice much appreciated: 1. Bike dropped on left side, scraping the bottom of the clutch cover and apparently requiring the replacement of the top-left fairing. The replacement piece was aftermarket, which was painted "to match." Does that sound right? Would a tipover would crack the upper fairing? Is the aftermarket piece problematic? 2. Replacement clipons. The seller says that the new clips somehow limit the bike's turning radius. Maybe because the lift was too high and the cables weren't replaced? Or maybe the grips hit the tank at full lock? I asked for more photos of the bars. 3. Odd title situation. The owner died with the title unsigned. The bike is still insured, and the seller has sent photos of a pink slip and other docs, with his mom's name on them. Is this a red flag? I'll probably ship through USShip or some such. I'm not sure that I'm ready to take a plane flight any time soon and it's a long trip from greater San Fran. Sierra, I'm sure that your's is better that this one. You still plan to keep your two Birds? Ken
  7. Nice weekend there, Sierra. Glad to hear that the Silver bird can still haul the mail. Do the Gen Mar risers still use the stock cables and lines? I'd guess so.
  8. A,I could up the bars, lower the adjustable pegs, and customize the thin seat. The bike totally hauls ass and handles great. Unfortunately, I dropped it in a slimy corner in the mountains last year. Low speed, but I probably need a new front wheel ($$$) along with right-side bodywork. Sigh. Broke me fookin collarbone too. I blame the 22.5 degrees of rake. 8-}

  10. Hey there, SierraKLR, just a quick ping. Your TI Bird is still looking good to me! Let me know if you need to make room in your garage for a Panigale or a LiveWire. Make me anoffer, maybe I can beat the price that you paid for it. Are those stock clipons? I'm getting to be an old bird myself, so I might have to go with Helis. Due to my impressive hip xray, I also might have to go with a Gunfighter seat. Or myabe seek out a gel-pad guru on a mountaintop in Nepal. Comfort is key, which is partly why I need to get out from under my Erik Buell Racing bike. Regardless, best wishes with the fires, and don't get sick! k
  11. I should note that none of the many reviews I've read and watched ever mentioned abrupt throttle response. This would be in keeping with the massive level of testing and refinement that must have gone into the XX.
  12. Carbs have been trouble-free for me, except for my old Hawk GT. I can live without another attempted carb rebuild. I prefer the simplicity of FI, as long as it's done right. One common fault with literbike FI is on-throttle surge, which can be annoying, particularly in corners. Does the XX FI suffer from that malady? I do prefer the titanium color. No offense intended.
  13. I put stiffer springs and low-end ohlins shocks on my '94 CB1000 (RIP). I felt like a real Wrench for a minute there. Made a big difference, despite the "tuned-flex" frame. Glad to hear to hear that Bird owners sometimes go that route.
  14. That's good to know, Super. My FZ wasn't all that bad either. In-town manners were it's weak point mainly because the rest of the bike was so good. Duallies might be preferable but the state of tune is my biggest concern. Sierra's bike isn't overdone. Do folks upgrade their suspensions on the XX? The fz had a pretty amazing suspension. Penske shock and fork internals rebuilt to match by Traxxion Dynamics. Slightly stiff, but great turn-in and rebound.
  15. There's gold in them thar hills! I hope that the smoke and fires are moving away from El Dorado, Sierra. Our family vacationed in Tahoe and Yosemite in the summer of 2019. It's no wonder that the natives revered those places. I can't wait to ride up there one day. Sierra, if you decide to sell, I'd be honored to give your Bird a warm nest and regular floggings. Feel free to text me at 919-413-3118.
  16. Super and Sierra, thanks much for the great info. The silver Bird sounds, er, better than ever. My old Gen1 FZ1 had that same "tuned for top-end" feel, and it too had an aftermarket end can. The bit of extra clutch slipping around town must not have bothered me much, because I put 48k on clock before I sold it, end can still present. So, Sierra, where you at? With a name like yours, I'm thinking Bishop or Lake Tahoe, CA.
  17. Wow, both of those birds rawk! I doubt that I could find another titanium '02 in that condition any time soon, if ever. I see that it has a 4-into-1 exhaust. I presume that it's a full Yosh system. The carbon end can looks great and the system probably saves a good bit or weight. Sorry about the following questions. Feel free to tell me to fek off as needed and no harm done. Does the pipe include an O2 sensor? Does it have a power commander or similar? Are there any related intake changes, like maybe to the airbox or injectors? Was it tuned by a pro, maybe with a dyno? Is there a baffle in the end can? Is it loud "AF"? Does it seem to run rich or lean? Does it run hot? Do you get any pinging or backfires? Is the gearing stock? Was the mod done done because of a crash? I doubt that I need more than stock power. I'd prefer all-stock, to be honest, but in this case, I'm definitely interested. Thanks again for the photos and info.
  18. Sierra, an Aermacchi sounds like a tinkerer's dream come true. You probably have your own machine shop. Good for you for keeping that antique bike in running condition. Presumably. Of course, if it's a piece of decor, then all you have to do is dust it. Do you have any photos of your titanium Bird, perhaps including a bikini babe or two? (The photo would still qualify as moto porn without the babes.) 10K miles is way low, but that doesn't mean that it's been neglected. You'd know by now if it hadn't been stored properly. k
  19. Either led or hid fits the bill, without having to add external lights that would mess up the slippery aerodynamics.
  20. I'm not offended easily, but it can be done. 😉 The motto of our riding group is "live to flame, flame to live." Most of us live to ride. For me, that $6K XX compares favorably with the S1000XR at twice the price. It doesn't have all the electronics, but I haven't missed any of that stuff so far. I had cycletrader tech support contact the guy. Still no word, and no update showing sold status. Jee zuss.
  21. Wow, the XX really does live up to it's reputation. Thanks for the welcome Red, this seems like a friendly gang. ReXX, that tour of your's should get sponsorship bucks from Honda! 😉 Maybe I'll find a 2001... My issue with the headlights is seeing into corners on backroads. For me, all headlights work well enough straight ahead. A pair of those little LEDs would work wonders. Saw a very nice titanium on cycletrader down in Braedenton, FL. The guy won't return my emails. Looks primo. Maybe he wants to sell to a lister? https://www.cycletrader.com/listing/2000-Honda-CBR-1100XX-5013288452 Enjoy your riding this weekend!
  22. Thanks for the guidance Swamp and Fur. I'm glad to hear that good news about high-mileage reliability. And I'm glad that I don't need to get a valve adjust, at least right away. I should ammend my original statement to include any FI year, with mileage up to 40K. Note that the owner's manual has a periodic maintenance table that calls for a value clearance adjustment at 27K miles. Glad that I don't have to run out and do that. What I read is that after you buy one, you change the timing chain tensioner and the rectifier and you're good to go. Sounds reasonable to me.
