Hammer Posted October 24, 2005 Posted October 24, 2005 I checked the coolant level today and it was midway between the top and bottom marks so it has used a touch after 2500 clicks. Is that normal? Quote
K9XX Posted October 24, 2005 Posted October 24, 2005 :?: It's supposed to be in between the top and bottom marks. If it was at the top mark 2500 miles ago, it may very well have overheated and the bottle overflowed. Nothing to worry about. Quote

This is a bit of a known problem. Apparently when the bird gets hot and you get the lean angle to a certain point it can cause some overflow out of the reserve tank. No suggested fix other than finding the right level for each bike. He said the new Triumph STs and Harley VRods have a very similar problem. Quote

He said the new Triumph STs and Harley VRods have a very similar problem. Your "service manager" is on crack. Did he ever consider that when a bike is leaning, so is the center of gravity, so liquids actually stay very close to level in tank? It's possible you had air in the system and it burped out, or you checked the level with different temperatures (low level - cold, high level - hot). Keep it between those marks, and don't worry about it. Oh, and switch dealerships. That guy's a tool. Quote
redxxrdr Posted November 10, 2005 Posted November 10, 2005 I was in bad, stop, stop, stop, go traffic in Daytona a few weeks ago. Was indicating 257 degrees F when I decided to turn off. I never overflowed, and levels were just where I set them before the trip. I don't like pushing the oil that hot, but the bird seems to be able to take it. Quote
matey_peeps Posted November 10, 2005 Posted November 10, 2005 Ya know, I should go work at a dealership. I'm pretty good at making up bullshit excuses on the fly and making it sound like I know what I'm talking about. Quote
