SwampNut Posted November 9, 2025 Posted November 9, 2025 There are a number of genetic factors that can raise your "bad" cholesterol levels, and so far, nothing could be done about it. Certainly many cholesterol issues are based on diet and life choices, but not all. I have a mutation in the APOB gene, (p.Arg3527Gln or R3527Q), which alters an amino acid in ApoB-100, reducing its ability to bind to LDL receptors and resulting in reduced clearance of LDL from the bloodstream, and leading to elevated LDL cholesterol and ApoB levels. This won't help me, but is a big step for a lot of people. https://www.perplexity.ai/page/crispr-therapy-cuts-cholestero-iOpEJ1OXQp2t_Rdt79V1HA#f7b79cea-2cc9-4f72-b4a5-e47ed40a0193 A single infusion of an experimental gene-editing treatment reduced "bad" cholesterol and triglycerides by approximately 50% in patients with treatment-resistant lipid disorders, researchers announced Saturday at the American Heart Association's Scientific Sessions in New Orleans. Zero Knievel Posted November 9, 2025 Posted November 9, 2025 Yeah. What can go wrong? If you have naturally high cholesterol, odds are your body has a counterbalance. My grandmother had high cholesterol her whole life. No cardiovascular disease. In fact, she was allergic to the foods that contributed to high cholesterol. 1 Quote
tomek Posted November 13, 2025 Posted November 13, 2025 My mother has high cholesterol, like 250 whatever that means. No cardiovascular issues, excellent blood pressure, she is 88 years old in excellent for her age health. Go figure. Quote
superhawk996 Posted November 15, 2025 Posted November 15, 2025 Easy cure for cholesterol problems, just drink more Jose milk. My dad (Jose) went to the doctor for a checkup and was told that his cholesterol was a bit high, dad was a heavy whole milk drinker so of course the doctor told him he needed to drink non-fat or at least low fat. "That stuff tastes like shit." So the doctor told him to try mixing the whole with non-fat at around 50/50 then start reducing it so he could become accustomed to it. On the way home dad stopped at the store to get some non-fat and discovered that they sell it pre-mixed. He was really shocked to find that it was not just tolerable, it was fucking delicious! So then we had to ween him off half & half. I think it was Mikesail that coined the name Jose milk when he had coffee here, it's now become a household name. 2 Quote
Zero Knievel Posted November 15, 2025 Posted November 15, 2025 I was expecting a dirty punchline, but that works too. Quote
