RXX Posted August 4 Posted August 4 I have just installed a center stand stop (thanks, Joe!) I purchased a new bolt and flange nut because it needed to be 3-4 RCH's longer. The original nut was not a nyloc so I did not replace with a nyloc. The manual does not mention thread lock when replacing, just torque specifications. Is this just a common-sense thing to go ahead and put a little thread lock on it? I would like to finish the job and forget about it rather than obsess over it when I am on the road. Thanks in advance! Quote
paul99xx Posted August 4 Posted August 4 I never use thread lock, maybe once on a flywheel, I use grease, or copper paste on ti bolts, never had a problem. If I was worried I'd go nyloc. Quote
Zero Knievel Posted August 4 Posted August 4 If there’s plastic anywhere it may drip, no. However, I’ve used rubber cement (craft product) in lieu of thread locker. Works great for areas you don’t want to expose to thread locker. I share your apprehension. I’ve had times where provided bolts supposedly just needed to be tightened to torque but came loose anyhow. Bought longer bolts and locking nuts for peace of mind. Quote

CALCXX Posted August 4 Posted August 4 I installed a Ny-lock nut on the bolt that holds the bracket at the bottom of the linkage to hold the centerstand off. Been on there about 15yrs now. Quote
RXX Posted August 4 Author Posted August 4 Never mind. I was installing it on the shock absorber bottom bracket bolt, when it actually goes on the RH side center stand bolt. Duh. Quote

CALCXX Posted August 6 Posted August 6 Phillip, I forgot what it looked like so, I took a pic. Been down there for about 15yrs now. Glad you got it worked out. I don't think our brackets are the same. You have a bolt to adjust height. I put rubber stops on mine. Quote
CALCXX Posted August 6 Posted August 6 (edited) Those are good. Built-in lock washer/interferance type thread. Edited August 6 by CALCXX Quote
RXX Posted August 10 Author Posted August 10 Now that the center stand issue has resolved, I moved on to the problem of the newly moved pipe melting my soles. I wrapped it with DEI and I guess it will work, the temp as measured by IR is ~300 F. I am open to using some flashing to nigger rig a shield, but there may be better solutions. 2 Bros 4-into-1. A gremlin that showed up last year's NeXXT was the speedo became intermittent. Should not be a big deal since I sport a radar detector, but with my wonky fuel gauge its becomes more of an issue. I checked the harness above the transmission yetsredat and cleaned the white connector up a bit, hope that helps. I may do a ground check on the dash over the next couple weeks but time is becoming a luxury. Joe, the hose I procured from you last year seems to be doing the trick. Thanks! The bike is still on the rack, but after 6 cycles of running till full temp is reached everything is dry. Mike, the fan has cut on every time at 225 F with IR pointed at center of radiator. I will still leave the switch, 'cause every time I notice it I think of you and get a woody. I am going to take the GIVI top case and mount off, I am going to attempt to do this with side bags only. Bill, I am turning over a new leaf. 70 pounds. How does that sound? Quote

Whoa, we can't say that any more. It's Afro-engineered. I'm not sure what is wrong with wrap, should be effective. Is it the look? I have some that's pretty. Or is it that your gun measures that temp on the wrap? The thermal transfer is super low so you should be able to touch it. Quote
