Buy the one that can exert the most force on a 20V battery.  Trust me on this one.

MAX XR - Maximum Torque - 500 Inch Pounds

ATOMIC 20V MAX - Torque - 1825 Inch Pounds

I have the Atomic, and have considered the hydraulic one for very specific needs that likely don't apply to you.  The Atomic is usually under $90 at any given time, the other one is never discounted that I can find.  The Atomic is crazy powerful, even in some pretty hard mechanical duty.

The question you want answered is not what I would buy, but what you should buy.  I can't imagine any scenario where you will need the XR, and having used the Atomic for three years, I can count on a hand how many times the XR would be *slightly* better for me in specialized tasks.

You made me shop, fucker.  Can't justify the cost to upgrade for the few times I wish for the hydraulic impact.  And the Atomic is $85 today on Amazon, didn't check it on other sites.

WalMart has it for $99.99 but from a Chinese seller with a 2.5 rating.  Amazon, the best I could find was $119 for the 850 model which is what I wanted.

If you mean the DCF870B it's no longer there, and surely a scam.  It's a hot new item, no discounts, or well, cheapest is $202.

And a fantastic trigger it is, on power level 1 you can spin it as slow as a careful hand and it won't put much ass into it.  Safe for starting screws.  On 3 it will blow a 3/8" bolt through a piece of solid steel.

No, you said the 850 was $99 on Amazon, but I couldn't find it.  I saw a used/referb one for $99 but rather the new at $120.

You're right, I glanced at the old 809 and put that in my mind.  $120 is still great.

You saw it was FedEx, right?

Just be happy if it gets to you in one piece.

Recently FedEx has stopped being complete fucktards for me.  The tracking...tracks...and stuff arrives.  They still do leave it farther from the door than anyone else, but not fully outside/exposed.

What are the advantages of the hydraulic?

I'm guessing it's quieter.  You can buy a lot of ear plugs for the price difference.

I missed the question before.  It has a different, and dare I say it, more fluid impact.  It can impart both more force but less trauma on the part being hit.  I have no idea if it's quieter, but logic says it must be.  These tools aren't loud so I don't imaging anyone cares.  This isn't a 1/2" oogga-doogga impact.

I'm still lusting for this but best I can find is just over $180 on eBay, so nah.

I used one last weekend. I hired a carpenter to work on my son’s 100 year old house. Had a weird (cool) different pulse while driving in a screw. It did appear a little quieter too. Kind of like shooting a piston operated AR vs DI.

Fuck you, I had put this absolute flaming desire out of my mind.

Also I don't think I've shot a piston AR.

Piston driven AR has kind of a lobe or pulse as the buffer enters and leaves the buffer tube/stock vs slamming back.

I purchased a couple of their uppers from PWS, and love them. PWS is an Idaho company.

Goddammit, slow down satan.  "You need to buy more tools and more AR parts."  Jesus man, what brand of vodka do you offer people leaving AA meetings?

Yes!

There's no such thing as a direct impingement AR15, they're all piston operated.

Now that I got that off my chest, I am curious to shoot a 'piston operated' one.

And yes, I know that DI is just what people mistakenly call the normal ones.  Oddly, my MAS 49/56 is a true DI gun and I've never heard anyone talk shit about its operating system, but they will about the AR's supposedly DI system.  Maybe because actual DI guns, like my MAS, aren't mainstream and aren't being subjected to tens of thousands of rounds of abuse.
