The trapdoor linkage is broke and the spring is now missing on the ice dispenser.

26yr old Ref/Freezer. Whirlpool Gold

Where is the best place to look for parts?

Can I replace it as a unit?

The buttons, crush/cube are not as good as they once were also.

Anyone ever work on an ice/water dispenser?

I am spoiled. Now I have to reach in for ice.

I would take the fridge part number, put that in google, along with "ice maker parts" and you'll get something.  My last repair was a washer pump, and that quickly got me the part.

Fuck, our dishwasher is broken.  We keep forgetting to google the error message.  This morning I told Moriah she should remember to do it.  "After all, it's *your* appliance..."

I've fixed several appliances, including refrigerators, and found the parts doing what Carlos said or similar.  You'll also find videos and writeups outlining diagnosing and repairing many appliances.

A new fridge can be spendy but will likely save a fair bit of electricity which helps reduce the sting.  Option #2, the route I took which is highly recommended, get a wealthy tenant who won't tolerate a malfunctioning ice dispenser and a $4,000 Kitchen Aid fridge will magically show up at your door.  Or what I previously did, buy a used one.

Many people are surprised by this, so don't overlook Amazon as a cheap/fast source.  This arrived overnight for $20 when everyone else wanted $50.

Yup, Google for the part number and YouTube for the repair procedure, I've fixed a bunch of stuff

Post script, I have not fixed my wife's ice machine in about the last 15 years. It has not made ice. Bad husband.

The dishwasher started working again when I plugged it in.  Needed a reboot I guess.

The door on my ice maker also acted up and would not seal properly so that ice would melt alittle and freeze up the working of the dispenser anyway.   I took the ice container from the inside off and stuffed a rag in the hole and put it back, I just reach in and grab ice when needed.   My fridge is going on 20 years and from what I have heard the newer units do not last very long.   So I'm keeping this one until it fails completly.
