Zero Knievel Posted December 25, 2024 Posted December 25, 2024 The driveway has developed a crack that runs across it. It’s narrow, but I don’t know which is a better option…fix it myself (and which product is best) or hire a driveway guy to treat the whole driveway and parking area (1/10 mile). The driveway and parking area cost enough to install that letting it deteriorate too much is not acceptable, and I figure if I have a crew come up to fix the crack, they might as well inspect, treat and repair anything else when they come out. The rest of the drive and parking area are in good shape, but I don’t know how frequently asphalt should be treated or sealed to protect its integrity. Quote
SwampNut Posted December 25, 2024 Posted December 25, 2024 As you said, it's expensive so care is worth it. I think you need to find a recommended contractor first, and get a quote or two. Then decide. Because unless you have some idea the cost, you can't really weigh options. Is it $200 or $2,000....? One is a no-brainer. Quote
blackhawkxx Posted December 25, 2024 Posted December 25, 2024 You are not thinking of doing it this time of year are you? Quote

superhawk996 Posted December 28, 2024 Posted December 28, 2024 Use tie downs to minimize the gap and a tarp to keep the rain out of it. 1 Quote

Zero Knievel Posted April 21 Author Posted April 21 It took a while, but I got a second party to come out and do an estimate on the work. His opinion was that I didn’t need a sealing job (previously done). For the big crack they recommended this product which VDOT uses… For the minor cracks, they use this… Quote

superhawk996 Posted April 22 Posted April 22 The proper fix for an asphalt crack is to close it. Drive stakes into each side and pull it together using a ratchet stra......never mind. Quote

You'll need stitches if you try to stitch me. Put the butterflies on or I'll just have to bleed 'till I get home, and I'm sure the nurse will do a better job than me trying to do it one handed. When I came back a couple days later he was amazed; as I told you, I know me, it just needed to be closed for a day. He was concerned about it being dirty; Ignore the grime, I work, it'll be fine.
