GARXX Posted October 2 Posted October 2 (edited) Hello strangers! I tried to look back into the Riders Mtg section to determine the last NEXXT I attended and it seems to be 2011... and then I only ever lightly posted and flirted with ideas to rejoin NEXXT in 2021 ish. The backstory of why I disappeared: the combo of (a) Forum changes seemed to 'kill' my notifications (so my move to gmail 15ish years ago halted my alerts from Post replies, etc., could never seem to get it to work), and (b) some big life changes in 2009, 2015 and then 2022 when we relocated to Chicago. Oh, and a fun fact: bought a used 2010 BMW K1300GT in 2017, so that competed with the Bird for my attention. As for Chicago, I moved with the two bikes and my Kendon trailer... but with no room at our city condo, I had the bikes at the motorcycle storage warehouse for these four years... barely riding each only 2-3 times/yr for short rides along the Lake. The high cost of storage and reduced riding had me sell the BMW in 2025. Now it is time to say goodbye to the Bird 😭, as I plan for retirement and another relocation in the next 12mo. Before I list the details of the bike below, can you give me your advice on these questions: ChatGPT scoured XX listings for me across all the platforms, compared to my bike's mileage and upgrades and suggested: List: $6,200 OBO If someone offers: $6,000 → I'd seriously consider it. $5,800 → I'd be inclined to sell if the buyer is straightforward and payment/title transfer are clean. $5,500 → I'd probably counter at $5,750. $5,000 → I'd hold unless you're motivated to sell quickly. I'd consider $5,500–$5,800 the "sweet spot" for the eventual sale HUH?? Sure many of the other listings have diff mileage (+/-) and upgrades... but these numbers blew me away... thought it would be more like $2500!? Since when has a used 27yo bike ascended in value over the past 10-15yrs?? What did I miss?? Thoughts on AI's suggested listing? Lastly, besides here in the Forum, any sites I should use or stay away from? eBay... craigslist... CycleTrader... Facebook? As for the bike: 1999 Honda CBR1100XX Blackbird, 24K miles, second owner since 2002, bought used from the original dealership, excellent mechanical and cosmetic condition, no dents or big scratches, never dropped, never in an accident, have all service records and original owners manual, have original windscreen and seat, with these upgrades: Custom Corbin seat and backrest Renntec rack, with T-Bag luggage system included Airblade windscreen Throttlemeister bar ends/cruise control weights Power Commander Carbon fiber-look tank bra Heavy duty chain New battery (09/2026) Newer tires (less than 1K miles since Chicago relo in 2022) Edited 21 hours ago by GARXX 1 Quote
Zero Knievel Posted October 2 Posted October 2 Phillip bought my '99 XX for much less, but it was pushing 100K when I sold it. Quote
ironmike Posted October 2 Posted October 2 In our current inflation-prone economy I don't think your pricing evaluation is unreasonable--and don't be surprised if its intrinsic value increases with time. There are no more XXs being made and excellent examples rarely surface. At 24K miles and well-maintained, it's just about "broken-in" and will likely surpass 100K miles with little to no trouble. The mileage is a bit high to generate significant collector interest (the Power Commander is a similar issue), but it seems to be restorable to OEM/factory stock configuration, and has fairly good provenance. While it may not be deemed a collectible at this point, it appears to be an outstanding "rider" example. Be patient; there are some very savvy folks out there who know about and suitably appreciate the Blackbird. I think you'll get your price. Best of luck! 1 Quote
CALCXX Posted October 4 Posted October 4 I think you will get your price also. Beautiful XX Garth. At 24k miles, it will run for decades. Quote
rockmeupto125 Posted October 4 Posted October 4 You weren't at NeXXT in 2011. You'd remember slogging through 3 feet of mud. And your AI bot doesn't know what things sold for, just what they were advertised for. If you don't need the XX, then glad you are selling and putting it in another enthusiast's hands. Still reminisce about our trips to Tennessee, it was good to have a travel partner. I'm sending you a private message. 2 Quote
GARXX Posted 21 hours ago Author Posted 21 hours ago Sold fast on eBay... good guy, Jim Jacobs, Haverhill MA, he had an '02 silver Bird, but never knew about our Forum... he sold it after having kids... my bike was picked up today by the shipper... I sent him the link to the Forum for him to join.. I'll stay 'watching' to see if he joins any group rides here with 'my' bike 😢 Quote
