I did my first and the bike first valve check at 30,000 miles. I could not resist any longer. The story is true, those valves are not moving much, all of them were in specs. No more worry for me and the next check will be at 60,000.

Yep, that would be the norm.

Is this just on XX's or generally all shim under bucket bikes?

I can not answer that question, my other bike is a Triumph and you can not afford to go that long without checking the valves and adjusting them.
