my radiator cooling fan stopped working in the fall, so today I opened her up and saw that the air guide was pushing against the fan. I put the air guide back in the right position and the cooling fan was able to spin freely again. Unfortunately while heating up the bike the fan didn't come on. The temperature reading was just a little underneath the red heat line.
Any ideas what this could be? Doesn't seem to be the thermostat since I still get a reading, or is there another thermostat telling the fan to come on? Should I just replace the fan motor? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Klaus, the fan motor probably fried when the fan jammed.

I know the fan on mine kicks on at around 215-220, which is way short of the red zone (250). So if your's isn't coming on when you're close to the red, the motor gets my vote. You could check this by applying 12v right to the motor, bypassing any switches that may be at fault. If the fan turns then it'll be time to start looking at sensors/switches, if it doesn't, replace the motor.

thanks a lot - I'll try that and see if it's the motor or not. Hope it's not the electrical system.

should have checked the fuses first :oops:
after being stuck the fan blew the fuse and now it's running again. can't wait till the snow clears off the road again. :cool:
