Need some help here please. I am replacing the carpet in a walkin closet with tile. After removing the carpet it appears the concrete floor has a opaque film of paint (majority is latex with some enamel, typical construction over spray) on it that I need to remove prior to installing the tile. Scraping thus far has proven to be a laborious bitch. I am looking for suggestions meeting the following criteria:
*easy
*economical
*wont leave a residue once its removed, dont want it leeching up into the thin set of the tile.

Thoughts?

D-A Sander with 80 grit?

2nd the sander. It doesn't have to be 100% removed inorder for the mortor mix to stick to the concrete. The shits stick icky icky and will hold the tile down fine if the majority is sanded off.

Can't you just use an adheasive like Thero-Bond or a Quickcret Adhesive?

Agreed. If the paint is really adhered to the concrete, no need to remove it all, especially since it's in a closet. Not gonna be high traffic or load.

Maybe a little water and some wet/dry sandpaper to keep to dust down, unless you have a sander with a dust port and a vacuum.

How about aircraft paint stripper makes paint bubble up good but to be honest never used it in your application. I bet it would work though would make scraping a breeze if it works.

I know at least one type of thinset that is designed to go over stuff like stuck on glue and paint. If you are really concerned, a belt sander and a few belts of 80 grit should do the trick. Again, no need to get it all off, just get to the concrete.
