We are having wood floor installed our dining room and I am redoing the base molding around the room with something different. What is the best way to blend the new different molding in with the existing? Specifically matching up the return pieces on the 45 degree angles between the old and new, ie a room transition? Does that make sense? All the rest of the molding in the house is the same so I have no example to look at.

i think if they aren't exactly the same profile it looks 'off ' when they are tried to match, I would use a plinth block or 2 and make the corner completely different, maybe use the same as any plinth's you may have at the bottom of doors in the same room.........
