Well, at 74088 miles, I finally changed drain plug and washer. It never leaked but I've always wanted a magnetic drain plug like I have in my Mustang.

Now I hope the magnetic drain plug catches all the uglies BUT I hope there aren't any uglies in there. A Catch-22. Kinda like your teenage daughter getting an "A" in Sex-Ed.....

Most of the "wear" metals in an engine aren't attracted to magnets.

John, where did you get the plug? My Yamaha has one from the factory , but I have not gotten around to seeing if it was the same threads. It definitely picks up a lot of very very fine particles, so you have a small blob of sludge on the tip when you pull the plug . Luckily, I never found any chunks on there!

Steve,
I got the plug from Advance Auto Parts. I went in there with my old one and matched it up. The only difference, other than the NEW washer, is that the wrench needed to take it off is now 14mm vs' 17mm.
Great Day!

Best thing I've ever done for a drain plug is to lockwire it shut. No worries of changing the washer for me.
