Full Version: Bent forks?

Rode my wrecked XX around the block yesterday and determined the front wheel and the handlebars were not pointing in the same direction.

What do you think? Bent forks or worse? Could the triple clamps be bent or are they generally too strong to get bent? Is there a poor man's way to check these things or do I need to go someplace like G.M.D. Computrack?

Thanks for your help!

one thing you can do is see if the forks come out of the triple tree with out any trouble, if the forks are hard to get out then the tt could be bent. if it is bent don't have it fixed. Ron

Loosen everything first and then retighten from the steering stem outward.

I rebuild a ST1100 a few years ago and everthing was just bound up crooked. Loosening everything allowed all the tensioned parts to pop back into their correct alignment.

Thanks, guys.

I hope loosening and then tightening everything up will work. I plan on replacing the steering head bearings anyway. If the triples are tweaked I'll get new ones.

If I get the title to the damn bike, it's going to get premium suspension bits before I ride it again.
