Anyone done this by just loosen the allen bolt on each clipon, and raise it about 3/4"? I want to try this mod but the handlebars support so much weight I'm afraid these could come loose. Which would be a very very bad thing to happen.

I concur with all, and emphasize #3. You're doing it wrong if that's the case. Go read a Code book or something.
