I thought he did have the V1 but maybe NOT, you may have to buy it direct.
I have the 8500---its fine---in all the tests I have read the 8500 has slightly better "over-the hill Ka-Band detection, but the V1 has much better rear long distance Ka detection--the V1 is $100 more ---Neither works perfectly on tight twisty roads 'round blind corners---but a million times better than w/o

AB how do you like the HARD system. Is there any weight to it with the helmet receiver/light and how does in mount up to the bike? Can it be moved to another Helmet easily? I have a couple of difference helmets I wear.

You have to get used to the red light---which is definitely bright enough--BUT for so long I was used to an audio signal--BUT once you are used to it, it is sweet

the unit that attaches to the helmet in very small, weighs nothing--I have the small (1"X1" X 1/4") receiver velcroed to the "shelf" on the back of the helmet. There are small coin batteries in there to drive the LED, I turn mine off when not using it so there are supposed to last 5K mi

The transmitter is approx 1" X 1" X 3/4" and needs to be close to the dectector--many velcro it to the bottom--mine is mounted on the dash, next to the detector.

It wouldnt be difficult to move the receiver--LED from Helmet to helmet---depends how tight you tuck it in. I hooked up with the guys at Laguna this year--had an impulse, nad now I am very happy I did. Its great listening to music w/o interuption, also nice getting off the bike w/no wires.

Does it send a signal strong enough to be picked up by more than one rider, if others had "a HARD on" there helmets? :grin: or is it a close proximity(sp) signal.

Beag, I wish you brought this up at NEXXT..... I have the setup with an 8500. I love the 8500, and the HARD system is awesome.

Not sure about battery life. I had it sitting around since March, and finally got to hooking it up right before NEXXT. I'm guessing I have @ 20 hours on the batteries so far. If I recall, it takes a pair of the CR2032.

I don't think the signal is strong enough for another rider to pick up. If you have power to the transmitter, but have not turned on the detector, it sends a constant flash. I just tested it and it seemed to get intermittent as I got about 10 or 15 feet away from the bike and moved around. I asked when I purchased, and he will sell extra receivers to mount in spare helmets.

If you get the 8500, be sure to buy a plain power cord, that does not have the smart cord feature, so you can hardwire it. The cig. lighter plug that comes with the unit is a smart cord.

Jerry, I have the 8500 and love it. I do not have "Hard" though. I use the ear piece. Works good for me.

I also have the Passport 8500 (not saying it's better or worse than the Valentine, let's not get the religious detector threads started) however I opted to go with the "radar screamer" versus ear piece or H.A.R.D. set-up. It can be easily heard at ANY speed with earplugs in.. and yes, others behind you will hear it also up to a couple hunderd feet. This combo has saved me countless free nights in our states finest barred facilites.

In Daves case it would be a butt plug that vibrates! :shock:

It's a Piazza speaker connected to a control box then your detector. (see http://www.motorcycleradar.com/products_pg...adar%20Screamer ). I initially saw one on a Hyabusa and the guy loved it so I opted for one on my ST1100. Several friends have seen it work then bought it themselves. The idea, quality and customer service were excellent! his thing relaly works! I first tried to use a detector without the audio but this cost me a ticket (which wound up running $510 after my insurance went up $150/ year for 3 years) so I then tried an ear piece, then I tried the ear piece but this was very uncomfortable so I tried the Radar Screamer.

It can be turned off, on low setting for around town, or on high which will knock the hair off your nuts thus heard at any speed with ear plugs!

I have no affiliation with the company, simply a satisfied owner...
