Full Version: New Chain ?

I finally got around to getting a new chain and I just assumed that all DID530ZVM chains were black in color.........this one is just raw steel.

Is there a different part # for the black ones? Not that it matters since I will probably just go ahead and run this one, but for future reference.

I ordered it from MAW and didn't see any other choices.

Are the black ones any faster? :???:

They all start out as "raw steel" (silver/gray) then with mileage and chain lube they go black. If you clean it with kerosene/wd-40 it will be gray again.

the gold chains excluded of course.

Well I'll be damned, you're right, Pete. Thanks.

I just went and scraped the side plate on my old chain and sure enough, it's gray. Jeeze, I didn't think that much crap had accumulated on it, and I did run kerosene over it once just enough to remove some cat fur.

I thought I saw on one of the sites or a catalog that it listed it as being black......don't know what I was smoking that day. :???:

Thanks again, Pete.

You were...neutering cats with your chain? Getting rid of those pesky critters that put paw prints on it overnight...? ?
