I can here my valves tapping ever so lightly. I have an 03 that has never been tune up, oil was change at dealer last spring. Bike only has 6000 miles and I only put 1000 mile on last year. Should I be concern?

Maybe they weren't right from factory, but I'd be a little concerned... I just had my valves checked and clearence was within spec (first time it was checked with 40K miles on her).

I'm not going to get into a discussion about how you know its the valves you hear.

But if you can actually hear the valves tapping without any hearing assistive devices, I'd suggest you take it to the dealer.

Could be a number things other than valve noise, but if you are concerned, have someone else look at it.

Does it change with engine temparature, or go away at certain RPM's? Can you hear it when riding, or just at idle?

Is there any oil in it?

Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary,
Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten porn,
While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,
As of someone gently rapping, rapping at my garage door.
" 'Tis some visitor," I muttered, "tapping at my garage door;
Only this, and nothing more."

Back into the garage turning, all my soul within me burning,
Soon again I heard a tapping, something louder than before,
"Surely," said I, "surely, that is something at the valve train.
Let me see, then, listen again, and this mystery explore.
Let my heart be still a moment, and this mystery explore.
" 'Tis the cc, and nothing more."

Forsooth, 'twas well done, Tom... I toast thee with this fine Amontillado...

Tapping/clicking... it's possible the CCT has piped up after 6k on a 3 years old bike... eusa_think.gif

The valvetrains on these high revving motors need to be a little loose, and you will hear some light ticking. A pronounced tap, however may indicate something more awry and needs further investigation before you blow your shit up and HD riders laugh at you on the side of the road.

Bet a dime to a dollar you are hearing your fuel injection. Listen to another blackbird at the same rpm and see if it sounds the same- I've owned two FI's and they both did it- a carby doesn't make the noise so the experts around the beer fridge and I concluded its the FI pulsing are whatever you wanna call it. To fix it you can a)install earplugs b)wear your ipod when riding or 3) twist the throttle WFO
