Well folks my stator wentso I ordered one for a 99 (for the additional current) and mistakenly ordered the RR from a 99 as well. I think I can make it work however I am wondering what the black wire is connected to. Anyone with access to a 99service manual be willing to check the diagram? I have it at home but I am curious now...Thanks
Obby
In the manual, I see the BI (black) from the regulator going to the BI/W (black/white).

yes but a 97 doesnt have that wire...i need to know the purpose of the wire or can I just leave it loose...near as I can tell it comes off the ignition but my cd is very hard to make out...

It goes to the bank angle sensor and the associated relay, with a leg also going up to the kill switch, maybe for reset purposes?

Shouldn't matter for your application.

Anyone ever put 99 stator and rectifier on 97? I Know the staor was bad because I had 2 legs grounded. Once I put the new stator in I checked the output to the old regulator and it was 4 volts, which prompted me to go ahead and chop the wires to adapt the 99 rectifier. The 99 has 2 red wires and 2 green wires coming out of it and I connected them together (red-red and green to green of course) and then connected them to the red and green of the bike. The damn thing is putting out way too much...popped both headlights and I knew something was wrong...grrrr I dont need this anyone have ANY ideas? Did I do something wrong?

Tim do you think the rectifier needs a signal from the black wire to start regulationg? I am sooo at a loss here. In theory this should work!!

SOMEBODY HELP!!!!!!
