Hey Tim, I'm going to the shop tonight to buy a new chain (RK-X 110 Link 530 Chain) and I am wondering how long does it take to cut the old chain and install the new? My sprockets don't look bad so I am keeping those for now, so I just need to break everything down, take off the old chain, install the new one, and button everything back up. So, what do you think?

You bought a chain tool? Cool. If you've got a breaker, I'd recommend grinding off the head on the rivet of the master link and pushing the pin out, this will enable you to use the master link to pull the new chain over the front sprocket. If you just cut the chain off you're going to have to pull the cover off the front sprocket to install the chain.

If you go the first route, an hour should be way more than you need.

Naw I couldn't find one. None of the shops had any chain tools and my dumbass forgot to order one online. I was actually hoping I could square you away with a 6'er and you would show me how to do it. I'd do the hands on, you'd sip beer and give directions...

Sounded like you might try it tonite for some reason, don't know where I got that....

Anyway- No problem at all, give me a call and we'll set something up. This weekend doesn't look to busy for me. Saturday afternoon would work best, but I'm flexible.

Cool thanks! What kind of beer you like that is readily available? We can do this early Saturday afternoon after my dentist appointment which is from 9 to 10. I'm ready to go anytime after that. It may be raining, so I'll be cruising. I still have your number in my Blackberry so I'll call you Saturday after I get out of the dentist to confirm.

No beer required, just bring the bike and we'll get it done.

I'll PM you my address so you can plan how to get out here. Call me Saturday like you said, we'll pin down an exact time then.

Just a thank you shout out Tim. Thanks for showing me how to do it, I learned a few new tricks today. New chain feels good and I gave it a nice run on the way home. :D/
