I read somewhere in an earlier post that the XX actually loses horsepower with a K & N filter ...what is the general consensus?

Not my '97. With the dual Micron CF's, K&N, and Dyno'd.... I got a total of 150 horses.

THE OFFICIAL POLL:
What provides more HP to the XX?
A) K & N Air Filter
B) Stock Air Filter
C) Other Air Filter
D) Hookers (riding the Bird and breathing hard)
There.... Happy now?!

I just switched to the K&N and I did not feel a loss or a gain but I did not dyno it so itcant be much.
Now on some vehicles it makes a BIG differance. The only good thing about the k&N is its the last filter you will have to buy for the bird.
I think D> will make the most differance ;) hehehe

I've had nothing but good luck with them up until "The Bird".

Got over 40,000 miles on Night Train since the K&N filter was installed....
It doesn't appear to be slowing me down much....

I've tried, but I can't think of anything that would slow you down. :fingers:

He has a switch on the bike to disable them in order to avoid unwarranted body motion and electrical power draw when the lights come on.

You are not going to get much HP in a change from the stock air filter. What you get is a less maintenance intensive air filter. With changing the plugs every 8-10k miles, you need to be under the tank anyway, but if you buy the iridiums and a K&N, you can leave both in there a lot longer. I went with the K&N for maintenance and time/cost effectiveness.

Dunno... I have a K&N on my '99 but have never had it dynoed. I did believe that I could feel a slight drop in power but nothing that overly concerned me. :)

The K&N is a wasted purchase unless you have
an aftermarket exhaust and can run the bigger
140 main jets on a carbed bike.
It was hurting my performance pretty badly until
after I threw on some Jardines slipons. After
that, MUCH better ;-)
It does flow alot better than the stocker in
the midrange, but that's the only place it does.

Excellent input! Thanks guys!
I think that I will keep my stock air filter for now
