I know a few of you have removed the license plate light contraption that comes on the US models and replaced the block off plate on the bottom of the tail light lens with a clear lens.
I'm going to have to do this because my 5-star rack was engineered for the european model and the brace that attaches between the left & right side racks goes right through the license plate lamp.

My question is(before I end up busting up my tail light lens) is how did you get the block off plate out?
I just put the whole tail section back together(body work/grab handle/luggage rack) and I do not want to do that again just to take off the tail light. It doesn't look like I will have to do that but it's better to ask first before getting out the chain saw. :chainsaw:

i haven't done this on my bird, yet, but on my vfr800, i didn't even disassemble anything, just took a dremel tool mini saw to it and replaced it with a plastic sheet that came from a folder cover  glued on....

kinda jury rigged, but might give you some ideas
BIG BOY
I just used a screwdriver and pryed a little at a time all the way around the bottom of the tail light. Came right out. Then use that piece as a cut out pattern for the clear piece. ONLY make the new clear pieca bigger. You'll see what i mean.

Die grinder with a carbide cutter on it cut it out and replaced with a peice of plexi glass
