Full Version: Rear sprocket

I know you guys don't think an aluminum rear sprocket is a wise decision because of it's short life expectancy. That's why I'm wondering is anyone knows if there's a stainless steel sprocket that can be purchased. I'm asking because I would like a sprocket to go along with the polished wheels I'm currently working on.

Oh, and a 43-tooth rear sprocket is OEM, correct?

Thanks,

Joe

I do seem to recall the rear sprocket is 45 teeth, not 43.

IMO, as long as you're not going to drag race or the like, there is nothing wrong with a quality, "hard anodized" aluminum rear sprocket, just ensure it's a reputable brand (SprocketSpecialists, AFAM, PBI, Vortex, etc).

Without question, the front sproket needs to be tough hardened steel. I personally stick with the OEM front sprocket because it has a rubber damper that makes the chain run quieter (to my ears, anyway. Some say they can't discern any difference in noise). In any event, I am unaware of any aftermarkets front sprokets that have this rubber damper.
