I am looking for a kit I can use to polish some random harware and the lips of my rims..
I got the concept down pretty well..
Coarse to fine buffing pads and a progression of differnt compounds along the way...
Can you use a standard power drill for the buffer or do you need some high end power tool??
Where can one find a set(pads and compounds) for under $100 that will give a decent finish??

I use the pads and compounds from Lowes (Mibro brand). They are fairly affordable and work well. I typically use sandpaper to get the finish down to buffing stage. You'll be buffing your ass off if you try to smooth the parts with a buffer if they are like the wheel spokes (sand cast). You can use a drill, but a bit more speed does better. I personally use a 90 degree air die grinder with the buffing pad. Luckily the shaft for the pad attachment that you'll buy is 1/4" and will fit into most die grinders.
