My air horns were great when they worked, but last week
they stopped working. I checked all the connections. I have it hooked
up through a relay. When I push the horm button I can hear the
relay click, and verified 12V coming out the wires hooked up
to the air compressor with a voltmeter.

I always thought electric motors were too simple to break,
but I ordered a new one anyway and just hooked it up tonight.
Same thing. I am getting voltage, but the compressor shows no sign
of life.

While it's possible I got 2 bad compressors in a row, the more
likely explanation is I'm overlooking something obvious.

What am I overlooking?

Ted

p.s. Got cut off last week and couldn't even blow my horn at
the assole. That sucks. I have to get this thing working
again.

Good advice Joe,

1-hot (positve) To the compressor lead
1-ground (negative) lead to compressor frame,
unless compressor has 2 leads marked pos.and
negative. Then connect accordingly,

If it does have 2 leads, and it still don't work,
you could possibly have the polarity reversed.

It's possible to have another bad compressor,
but not very likely. If you have an OHM meter.
take a measurement between the positve and
negative at the compressor with the battery
disconnected.
An open reading means "bad".

If the compressor has a rated current draw,
tell me and I will apply OHM's law and will
let you know what the resistance reading
should be.
