Has anyone ever weld the clutch basket on the bird ? I'm having a problem with the clutch being graby above 4000 rpm at launch without the lockup I'm assuming that welding the basket will eliminate some play which could be causing the problem :?:

I've had my old ZX11 clutch basket welded, but it was due to a crack. It then shattered when I wheelied it through an intersection. Different scenerio, but I've chosen to avoid welding cast aluminium now.

I've got a Falicon billet in mine.

It uses the stock springs, but shims them to tighten them up. No more rattling/clunking on a cold morning now, either. :)

the rattling/clunking... I've noticed that the last few mornings... I just pull the clutch in until the idle gets smooth...

Yes, that's the one I'm talking aboot.

It's the basket rattling, which is the same problem you get with hard launches.

Chris,
Where did you get your clutch basket and how much? I have a feeling I'm going to have to do something with my clutch pretty soon.

So, did you ever get it back to the dyno again? I didn't see any sheets posted but I may have missed them.
Northman
You can do it yourself, or have it done locally, as well.

Falicon sells a "kit" to do the job. I had mine done @ Orient Express for $325, IIRC. Retail is $445.

What's wrong with yours, Jason? Or are you planning on the mod for the turbo?

I replaced mine because after the new engine was done, there was more load on the basket springs, so I got the knock when changing from coast or decel to accel.

Have not been back to the dyno, yet. My engine builder is still going through negotiations with Kawasaki, so until that's settled, we don't have access to the dyno.

Hopefully soon, though. I want to get the bike out of the garage for the winter.

Does the XX have a "back torque limiter" like a Busa ?

No.

Just a dampened basket.

Thanks guys the info from elixxer really helped . I've got the clutch setup like he suggested and the lockup installed all I need now is a good weekend to go to Denton and try the new setup, just trying it around here the clutch now will slip up to 6000 before it grabs which is much better than before.
