bartonmd Posted January 12, 2005 Posted January 12, 2005 I think the exhaust is all the same... Mike Quote
demon Posted January 12, 2005 Posted January 12, 2005 It will bolt right up. If it's a stock header, the tubes are grouped differently than the fuel injected header. The 97-98 header groups the exhaust for more top end power. The stock 99-up header groups the exhaust for more mid-range power. If it's an aftermarket header, don't know how the exhausts are grouped but it will be the same as one of the factory setups but probably like the 97-98 grouping. Quote
Redbird Posted January 12, 2005 Posted January 12, 2005 Careful here, I used to think the same thing, until I bought an Akra system that turned out to be for a '97-'98. It did indeed bolt right up, but when I was done it interfered with the lower radiator mount, requiring a bit of modification to get everything all buttoned up again- as in I had to make the lower radiator mount about 3/4" longer and put a couple curves in it to get around the pipes. Not a deal breaker, but something to consider when shoppping. Quote
demon Posted January 12, 2005 Posted January 12, 2005 You're right Tim. I used to run an Akra full system on mine, but put the stock header back on. I had the same lower radiator mount problems. (Don't be too rough on me for getting rid of the Akra and putting the stock header back on with slip-ons, it's a personal thing. I like the dual exhaust's looks and a friend is dragracing his bird and looking for Max power and swapped me. If I told you all the details, I'd have to shoot you) Quote

I like the dual exhaust's looks I agree with you completely on the looks of the twin pipes, I hated to lose them with the Akra, but the 24lbs the bike lost was too much to say no to. Sounds pretty freakin' sweet, too. Have you seen XRDracer's setup? Aftermarket 4-2 header with Akra carbon cans out back. I wish I was rich, perfect setup, IMO. Check it out- http://www.reddout.com/CBR/xrdracer/ Quote
demon Posted January 12, 2005 Posted January 12, 2005 Yea, that would be sweet, aftermarket header with cans on it. Save weight and gain power. Quote

I'd be interested to see the "Y" on Howie's system where it splits behind the engine. The factory split is brutal in design, and there isn't much room to make one that flows well. FWIW, the header is fully titanium, as well  Quote
lexxus Posted January 15, 2005 Posted January 15, 2005 I have a 99 and the header bolted up but yes you have to mod the radiator bracket because i think it needed a longer bracket. just fine a 99 header it's much simpler. of course. Quote
Red J Posted January 15, 2005 Posted January 15, 2005 I'd be interested to see the "Y"... Heh, heh. You said, "Y" Heh, heh. Heh, heh. J. Quote
