  1. I cleared everything as you recommended and it looks like we might be back in business. Thanx for the help!
  2. A couple of months ago I bought a Tank Grip kit from www.TechSpec-usa.com to overcome my tendancy to slide forward on the saddle and have to hitch back regularly. The "Gripster Sport" material that I ordered was a new product for them and the adhesive system they used did not work. After applying the material it soon began to curl up at the edges. I contacted Dean Davis - (916) 941-6606- about it and he acknowledged the problem after investigating his stock of product. He then took the initiative and offered to send me an upgraded custom cut Tank Grip set if I would send patterns. Seemed like a good deal to me so I sent patterns for the Blackbird and in less than a week had a custom cut set of "Gripster MX" on the bike. I've been using it regularly through the hot months of this summer and have had no adhesive issues. I also found that the "grip" was a bit more positive with this material than it was with the first version. It gives me the ability to shift and hold my position at will by gripping the tank with my knees. While this is obviously useful out on the back roads, it also helps reduce fatigue in the wrists and hands when you're out on the freeway. The stuff is also removable - not so much to switch from one bike to another since the patterns wouldn't likely fit - but more for changing out the look of the bike from time to time as the need arises. You might want to give this a look if you're considering something like a tank bra at over twice the price. It does a good job and they have my patterns if you want to avoid the hassle making them yourself.
  3. I recently changed to Castrol GTX "Start Up" 10W-40 and the CLUNK into 1st went away. Shifting seems generally smoother too!
  4. During a long freeway run I was noticing some hesitation during gentle roll-ons. At first I though it was one of those ignition mapping problems some bikes have but decided to try a shot of fuel injection cleaner to see if it would help. I was out in the middle of nowhere and just bought a generic can off the shelf and poured 1/2 of it in with the fill-up. No more hesitation!!! I havn't tried the Seafoam but it may be a better choice for on-going maintanence in the future.
  5. The '02 Blackbird I bought a few months ago was set up with Two Brothers bars. The previous owner required the extra reach afforded by that set-up but I couldn't accommodate it and quickly changed them out for Heli-Bars. The Two Bros. offer more adjusment options within the limits of the brake and clutch line lengths and are very well made but to mount the grips properly you will have to modify the switch housings or drill the bars to suit the locating pins that Honda provides. My switches had been modified and were kind of a nusance as they tended to twist around the bar with no pin to locate them properly! If you have the stock bar to measure from I'd recommend you drill them to match. I'd have to say that I've been pretty pleased with the Heli-Bars. The mounting clamps are about 1/4" taller on the fork tube than stock so if you leave the stop ring in place the front of the bike is down by that amount when you've finished. Also you have to cut those locating tabs off of the master cylnders when you mount the Heli-Bars so you can get the proper rotation on the banjo fittings, but you won't have to buy new lines with the Heli-Bars.
