  1. Verdict is in. Bad stator. So will be replacing stator and RR. Ouch, but that's the first non normal wear repair expense in 62,000 miles. Can't complain too much.
  2. Thanks for all the input. I'm going to have the charging system checked tommorrow, just to rule that cause out. I will share the results.
  3. I use my 02 Bird to marshall at bicycle rides. After 1/2 hr or so of real slow riding (under 2500 rpms) my battery starts to die. After an hour of this my bike will not restart. I bump start it and once I ride it home at normal speeds the battery seems fine. Bike has 63,000 miles and battery is 1yr old. It's on a tender when home. Is this normal or do I have a stator or regulator problem. This problem only occurs when I'm doing the bicycle thing. Thanks in advance.
  4. fuel pump relay??? Not the fuel pump relay; the ECM. They didn't have a new one in stock (good thing their not cheap) so he tapped it with a malet and it worked. Hope that helps.
  5. My 02 started doing that around 40,000 miles. Tryed new chain sprockets etc to no avail. Finally took in to the shop. The fuel injector relay had stuck. They tapped it with a malet and freed it up. That was over a year ago and the bike has not had the problem since. JR
  6. Item #6 rear brake lever. Do you mean rear brake pedal? If so I need a rear brake pedal. LMK. Thanks, John
  7. Thank you Redxxrdr and Ironmike for solving my probelm. Not a tight link, but a too tightly adjusted chain. Bike has a +6mm Wilber shock and chain was adjusted on center stand to factor settings. Too tight. Thanks to all who offered solutions. I now have my great bird back. Thanks again, John
  8. Did you have the bike apart for anyreason before this occurred... like the tank off? Were you chainging plugs or air filter and then soon after this occured? The bird is real funny about having all its vacuum lines connectetd correctly. When it hesitates... what RPM does it start. Does it occur when the bike is hot as well as whem you start it up? I had done nothing to the bike before this occurred. The filter and plug change came after the problem developed. You really start to notice this at 3500rpm. The bike jerks when held at constant rpm and it doesn't matter what rpm. Hot or cold. Bike is completely stock. I'm leaning toward the pressure regulator, but will have to have a professional test for me. In the mean time I will double check all the hoses. Thanks for your help, John
  9. No mods. No FI light. One day it ran fine, the next this problem developed and has stayed . Thanks again, John
  10. 02 Bird 37,900 miles. Serges at a constant throttle setting. Idles fine. Seems to run fine when throttle is applied. Have replaced spark plugs, air filter and run a can of Sea Foam thur. Nothing helped. In neutral applying the throttle to increase revs, bike does not sound smooth. Bike does not back fire. Old plugs with 37,900 miles on them didn't look too bad. This problem seems to have delevoped overnight. What next Doc? Thanks for any help, John
  11. Contact Pirelli. I received my front about two weeks after I sent in my bill of sale. That was about a month or so ago. I do like the tires. It's amazing what new rubber does for your bike.
  12. Joe, Both oils were Mobile 1. The motorcycle specific container looks the same except for the" Motorcycle 4-cycle" wording and slightly different label coloring. Mobile 1 $4.99, Mobile 1 motorcycle oil $7.99. Both syn. oils.
  13. Time to change from dino oil to Mobile 1. Went to the local Auto Zone and saw Mobile 1 4-cycle motorcycle syn. oil in both 10-40 & 20-50 as well as the regular Mobile 1. I had never seen motorcycle specific Mobile 1 before. Other than $3.00 a quart more, is there any difference? Reading the labels off the containers did not clear anything up. The word transmission appears on the motorcycle oil but not the other. Does anyone have any experience with or knowledge of the motorcycle specific oil? Is it worth the $3.00 premium per quart? Thank in advance.
