  1. Hello OrganDonor, I just got one of these UK RH switch blocks and would like to see that write up...could you post it up again or shoot it to me?...I would appreciate it...cheers.
  2. EVL, I didn't pull them apart, just pulled them off the rubbers so I could get to the mixture screws...the t-stat housing is in the way of #3...it ran very well today...pulled all the way through...had plenty of twisties and mach speeds with another 'bird...some fine tuning might be in order still but that will come in time...thanx for all the advice...cheers.
  3. Well I pulled the carbs today and found the mixture screws were at 3 turns out except #4 was at 2 1/2 turns...put them at 2 turns and she didn't like that so gave them another 1/4 turn and she like that, epecially with the airbox back on...nice and crisp all the way through...and I don't think my neighbor did any jet changes as the float bowl screws didn't have any markings on them...so I'm thinking the stock jets are still in there...gonna run her tomorrow since it started raining when I got her back together...will report after the ride...thanks all for the advice...cheers.
  4. Yeah it feels sluggish down low compared to back in Chi town. It smells rich at idle, Pipes sound deeper and tips are black too. I noticed when I try to start it cold, I barely need to choke it. I think that 16t sprocket you got makes up for it a bit. I rode it today in dry 90 deg air and it just didn't kick like it should. I wanna do this adjustment once and be done if you know what I mean.
  5. Question for the carbie guru's. I just recently moved to Rio Rancho NM, about 5500 ft in elevation from Chicago, about 900 ft in elevation. Current jetting I believe is a FP Stage one kit. 145's on 1 and 4 and 148's on 2 and 3. Pilot jets are at 3 turns out and .001 shims on the needles. I have Two Bros slip ons and recently put a K&N air filter to give it more air. It is definately rich, especially at idle. Moving, it seems that it could use more punch. I've been emailing Dynojet for advice and they tell me I should put 136's and 138's respectively. No mention of the pilots. Does this sound right? I don't want to go too lean knowing that stock jets are 140's/142's, pilots at 2 3/4 turns out and I have slip ons with a K&N. I was thinking, 138's/140's and put the pilots at 2 turns out (per the manual for altitude) since the cans and filter can make it leaner too. Thoughts?
  6. I just fit a 95 900rr shock on my 98. Straight bolt on with the transfer of the upper stud mount. I need to ride it yet to see how the change affects the bike. I need a spanner wrench to turn the preload collar. I also put a Hyperpro front fork kit in it too, new springs and oil with Jaws preload adjusters. Hoping for a better ride. cheers.

    carb question

Well, after some reading and looking at Dynojet suggestions for what I have...we went ahead and put in 145's in 1 and 4 and 148's in 2 and 3, shimmed the needles .0005 and set the pilot's at 3 turns...fired her up and she is definately more responsive and has a deeper tone too...need to get her out and see what she does...
  8. I know I know, it's been asked many times but seems easier to ask again rather than sorting through the endless posts...I'm having my carbs cleaned and jetted and is wondering what most carbie riders that have done this have found to be the best setup for power and performance...this is going from stock, running a stock air filter with Two Bros slip ons...any info is appreciated...thanks and cheers.
  9. Just curious, you mentioned a K & N filter and you clean it on a regular basis...does that include oiling the filter?? If so, how much oil have you been using?? Recommended amount?? In my experience I have found that people over oil the filter and not even know it...what happens then is that the oil gets pulled by the intake vacuum and onto the Mass Air Flow sensor, this can cause your rough running and MPG issues...you can take the sensor out of the housing, it has tamper proof type torx screws, but you can buy them just about anywhere and clean the wires carefully with rubbing alcohol on a Q Tip only...clean out your intake and IAT too, carbon build up is another common issue...unhook the positive battery cable to reset the ECM...when you pull your plugs and they look white in color, then you know you are running lean, a dirty MAF can do this...hope this helps a little, good luck...cheers.
  10. I'm with Outlaw on this one...a PO300 code that keeps coming back, even if all other ignition parts are good can be either one of these sensors...if the sensors are OK then go with a very worn timing chain...at 168k it's very possible that the chain has slack in it and it's causing the crank and cam sensors to get out of sync causing the PO300 code...very common on high mileage engines and have seen it too many times...hope this helps...cheers. EDIT:I'm an ASE Master Tech, got good feeling on this one.
  11. Yeah, it's always had this, I plan on doing some work to her over the off season so I thought about tackling this first...
  12. Not sure if the motor has been opened, I don't think so...when I checked the balancers, I used a stethescope to listen to the noises while turning the adjusters...all 3 sounded the same...how can I tell if the front one is 180 off??
  13. I know this topic has been brought up several times but I'm lost a little bit...I've got a bad vibration from 3k and up that's so annoying, it literally rattles the bike and makes my nuts vibrate...I've checked the balancers per the instructions I found on here and still the same...what are the other possibilities that could make this engine vibrate so much...my buddies 97 is smooth as glass and that's what it's supposed to be like right? All I've done as far as engine history is changed the plugs at 16k, put Two Bros. slip ons on it and a new CCT, the vibe was there before too...it runs good, plenty of power, idles fine and no hesitation in throttle response, carbs, ignition, valve adjustment, I'm lost...doesn't matter if it's sitting still or I'm riding, really feel it in my hands. Thinking of taking some temp readings on the header pipes to see if all 4 are at the same temp range...any help is appreciated...cheers.
  14. Well, got her fixed up today and she's flyin' happy again...thanks again for everybody's input...I put up a pic of the new vs old and the damage from not putting in the pad reatainer in the bracket...cheers.
  15. Update...there are still some Angels in this world that come out of nowhere to help someone out they have never met...A huge thanks to hammerandtongs (aka Dan) from the .com site, if he's not on here...he had a caliper bracket that he was not using and sent it to me out the kindness of his heart...thanks also to those on here for their input...my 'bird should be rolling again soon...cheers.
