  1. Just gone down the ventura route myself, never did like the look of full hard luggage on an XX but the Ventura is big enough, easy to remove and doesn't cost the earth. Stu

    XX knocking

    hi Guys, my 02 XX has this very same sound and has done since I bought it with 4000 miles on the clock, it now has 34,000 miles and the noise is still there, no better no worse. My earlier 96 XX had the same noise. It only really happens when the bikes really warm and siting in traffic. My mate has an 05 model with 13,000 miles on it now, and thats done it ever since it was run in. I dont think its the CCT, I've one of those go and it was a completely different type of noise. I don't think its the big ends, little end, mains or c/b shafts. I had sort of convinced my self it was more a piston slap issue, and as long as it doesn't get any worse its fine. I also think that the majority of XX's do this and a lot of it is down to the rider as to whether he hears or feels it and actually pics up on it at all. Stu

  4. If you must cut the grip, try wetting the rubber, you'll find it much easier. Ever wonder why you seem to get more punctures in the wet? But I've always found the best way is this (may only apply to Honda, don't know about other makes) remove the bar end release the small stainless clip that locates in the hole in the inside if the bar re-fit bolt from bar end pull like hell on the bolt and draw the inner bar wieght out of the bar just far enough to allow the extra clearance for the grip and/or throttle lock replace bar end without the clip job done Stu

    The VFR V-tech bars make a hell of a difference when fitted, you can also get bar risers which fix to the top of the fork leg and the XX bar then fits to that. Jaws' Bar risers Stu
  6. Hi guys, my 02 XX had the CCt go at just about bang on 7000 miles, and it was like someone had flicked a switch it happened that fast. I swapped it with one from Jaws which has now done 20,000 miles and is still spot on. For what it costs and the time it takes, you might as well do it, even if it's to rule it out as the cause of the problem. Stu

    Personally i think 1500 rpm is way to low, thats only just off idle, and unless your in first gear your gunna be labouring the engine which is exactly what you shouldnt be doing. The XX engine is so strong that if you keep it between 3000 and 7000 and use the gears and keep to small throttle openings you won't have any problems at all and will still have a massive speed range at your disposal. Top gear at around 5000 revs is still 90 mph, so there's no need to over rev the bike yet. Stu

  9. For all you guys who like to do big miles with a pillion onboard, these very same pegs will fit on the rear of the XX as well. They need a bush in the same way as above, and a little more filing on the underside to stop them touching the cans. Stu
  10. Mine has the honda step washers in the front and a 2mm thick stainlees washer at the rear. Still needed a very slight tweek to get everything to slot together the first time. Stu

  12. I think your problem may be the that having the front higher, its probably upset the PCV (proportional control valve) . The valve is there to sense the front / rear angle of the bike and interupt the flow of fluid to the rear caliper from the secondary master cylinder on the left hand fork leg, when the bike pitches forward and unloads the rear. Try sorting your front sag/ride hieght, then test it again before worrying too much. Stu
  13. I checked my clearences just before 16,000, and one exhaust clearance was right down at the minimum. I left it and rechecked them earlier in the winter with 22,000 on the clock and that one clearance was exactly the same. So I swapped the shim in that one to bring it back to the centre of the tolerance. Maybe it left the factory like that, who knows. Its worth checking them, just for the piece of mind. Stu
  14. Hi Squirtster, The answer to your cans question is, No the cans on the later models (xx1, xx2, xx3 and xx4) have Cats fitted so are not the same. The way to tell is; the first part of the can where it fits to the collector box is significantly larger in the bore. This is true in the UK, but I reserve the right to be wrong for the rest of the world. Stuey
