  1. I intend to embark along that very path and am looking out for the bits. I’ll post up my experience with the conversion once it happens (don’t hold your breath, I’m not the quickest of fiddlers ).
  2. Off topic, but apparently someone on this site has done an ABS conversion to their 'bird using VFR800 donor parts. I've searched but can't find it - can anyone help? Thanks
  3. Is that how it really is.. or "Photoshop" of how you'd like it. Very nice either way, concept or for real.
  4. My Blackbird is at 28,000 kilometers now and one of the front discs is quite rattly. By this I mean that the rivet buttons used to secure the actual brake disc to the carrier have freed up quite a bit and there is about 1mm rotational play, but little side play (the other is starting to free up but the spring washers on the button rivets are still quite tight). I remember when floating discs first came out on race bikes, they were very loose, but I'm curious to know how many other mid to high mileage riders have noticed whether their brakes are freeing up like this?
  5. Well I got the parts yesterday and that part number….. 16953-ML0-014 - Description: COVER SET, PETCOCK ……does include the rubber stop and diaphragm. All fitted and ready to go! Thanks to all and particularly birdie_xx
  6. Thanks for all the help people. I’ve phoned the three local dealers and each one tells me they only list the complete assembly. I’ll ask them to go and look again at the part number birdie_XX gave me for the cover set (16953-ML0-014). Fingers crossed. You’re all so helpful, you should come over for a barbie. Summers in BC are great, and we’ve got some pretty good roads. Thanks again.
  7. The vacuum operated petcock on my BB is leaking. Lift the gas tank, remove the petcock and remove the four screws holding the diaphragm in place. Hey presto – the part is there to be inspected and replaced (the sealing face on mine was damaged). The manual even shows it as a separate item and describes how to replace it. Here comes the rub; you can’t buy it. You have to buy the complete assembly. Kerching……. $210 with tax. Bullshit – that sort of thing really pisses me off. One dealer I spoke to said that Honda probably does this because they can’t trust the competency of people doing their own maintenance. Not really an acceptable excuse, otherwise why can you buy wristpin circlips, or valve guides for instance? Anyone got any smart ideas as to how to resolve this. I’m going to write to Honda Canada expressing my displeasure!!!
  8. Well, what do you know…. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...&category=10460 Item # 245642660
  9. It's a possibility. Having seen the pictures of your steed I would suggest another alternative. Pick up a RH passenger hanger on eBay (about $25 with postage) Remove the peg. Saw off the lugs. File to blend and polish. Really very easy, and would look the dogs bollocks. You can get almost anything you need on ebay if you're patient - from my experience you should be able to score that part within a month.
  10. It's not difficult ot make your own. Use stiff cardboard to make a template. Get some 1/8" - 3/16" Al Alloy sheet, and copy your template - Voila It can all be done with a handrill, hacksaw, vice, file, mothers, and the will. Extra tip: Cover the Ally with a couple of layers of masking tape before cutting and bending the metal. Polishing is much easier and the results better without scratches.
  11. Stay with it Beefa, I understand your frustration. I’m often tempted to spend many thousands more on an antiquated design with only two cylinders and the performance of a family car. I too have to endure the pain of owning one of those POS Jap things that’s taken me trouble free on many touring trips fully laden, two up at indecent speeds. I’ve had to spend a fortune in maintenance - you know, fresh oil, filters, coolant, chain lube and tyres. I don’t know if I can stand it much longer.
