  1. For two weeks my '97 bird has been in the shop for starting problems...at the second mechanic. Got it back and the place said it was my vacuum hose being plugged into someplace different than the nipple at the second piston. I asked him how I was able to run perfectly then, without touching anything under the gastank since sparkplug replacement 6 months ago, for over 8 months (considerring that misplacing the hose means no fuel to carburators). He also said that the hose was cracked at one end and he cut that small piece off for me...how kind. Well he ended up charging me $150. The next morning was going to ride to work and it started a little rough, but ran for about 30 sec. and then died...AGAIN!! i called and told him that he did not fix the prob, and I had expressed to him my reassoning that it must be a fuel delivery problem. He said that I was wrong and that this was a different prob than the one I brought bike in for in the first place. So I deduced that the petcock was the only source of this stupid situation. I took the petcock apart, removed the cover, and found that the diaphragm was busted. This stupid little insignificant piece of rubber was the reason for my trouble. When it breaks or tears, it produces a vacuum in the line, therefore keeping fuel from being delivered to the carbs. Unfotunately, you must order the entire petcock cover in order to recieve one stupid paperthin .50 cent piece of plastic. So I did, and replaced it, and problem solved. Just wanted to post this in case anybody out their needs some help with their petcock, petcock diaphragm, petcock hose placement, etc. So please feel free to email with questions. I've also got pictures if you would like.
