Chadjj
I got the new cans on the bike and have done a WOT plug check. and the readings are good. Nice brown ring and color. I pulled one of the covers and it had a needle with clip plus one washer. On the fuel bowls it has allen head bolts not philips head, so would tell that it has a jet kit installled. The question I do have is on a stock set of carbs, do they come with needles that have the adjustable c clip on them or are these aftermarket? On the parts breakdown all i see is a washer on the needle.
Desert Goat Herder
The stock needles are non adj. so if they're adj someone has done some jetting. Maybe not be a jet kit but could be someone trying their hand at it themselves. Mine has the Dynojet kit and with all the fiddling I had to do to get it to run right I'd do it my self next time. You can get thin washers to adj the needle height like they do here. http://www.yamahafz1oa.com/forum/showthread.php?t=89724 obviously this is for the FZ-1 but it will give you some idea on how to do this on the Bird. Here's another guide that you can use. http://www.factorypro.com/tech_tuning_procedures/tuning_carbtune,CV,high_rpm_engines.html
