  1. Hoping to get some fresh eyeballs on my XX woes: To summarize first. I have a good battery (off my running vtx1300) in the XX, I jumped it to my idling truck. When all switches are engaged (kill, kickstand, clutch), the bike gives a big click and my truck's idle drops significantly. I let off the start button, my truck goes back to idling normally. (No drop in truck idle with kill or kickstand or clutch switches open). I don't hear the fuel pump prime/run when turning the key to start (doesn't the fuel pump run for a second or two?) I've checked the 30A fuse that sits at the back left of the battery area; its good; - I checked all the small 10/20A fuses in the box behind the battery. Not sure where other fuses might be. Other stuff from above: "clunk" or "click"? (starter relay)" - It's definitely a click. I'll search for info on the starter relay "Cross the solenoid terminals momentarily and see if the starter spins" - need to try. Can someone point out where the solenoid is? "Sell it.....you're fucked." - probably so, but I'm stubborn
  2. Thanks everyone. The bike battery is brand new. Yeah, it's a n'ever start, but it is brand new. I filled it, and charged it before installing. It read 12.7V after charging, in line with what the instructions called for. I also hooked it up to my truck (not running), and tried to jump it. Even with that, it still just clicked. Next I'll swap the bike battery out with the battery of my VTX1300 (which starts fine), and test it that way. I'm having a hard time believing it's just the battery given it's a brand new battery, and it didn't start with a jump from my truck, but will hold off on (kindly) pressing y'all for what other component the problem could be resulting from, until I test it with my VTX battery. Thanks again, Joe
  3. First off, thanks in advance for any insight y'all can give me... I had let my XX sit for several months. I came back to it, replaced the battery, and when I hit the starter switch all I hear is a click and nothing else. I don't have a lot of background with XX mechanical work, and am wondering if that symptom sounds like the starter has bit the dust?. Or is there a more likely culprit? If the starter, is it a DIY'able project? (is it accessible?) Thanks!! Joe San Antonio
  4. I've been stupid, and let my '02 1100xx sit for about 6 months for no good reason. Finally replaced the battery, it had to crank for about a minute before it sputtered to life, and took it around the block to see how it ran. Upon returning to my garage, the bike is pumping out what looks to be white/grey smoke from both tail pipes. Did some searches and found some recommendations about the FPR being a possible problem from sitting too long. Even if it's not the ultimate problem, I thought I might replace the FPR as a first step, and replace it just to replace it (saw some people claiming it helped restore performance to closer to how it was when new). Most of the posts I found were over a year old, and some of the sites I went to I couldn't find the FPR (maybe not searching under the right name/number). Can someone ID the part number for the FPR, or recommend a source for an aftermarket FPR? Also, I'm a decent wrencher, never got past adjusting valves on an older sport bike, and don't have time to disassemble a bike these days....is the FPR a reasonable DIY job? Thanks, Joe San Antonio
  5. dumber question: I'm not at home to look in my tool kit, but are there 22 & 27mm wrenches that work well-enough that I won't have to fork out $$ for a set of sockets containing a 22 & 27mm socket? Thanks!!
  6. Howdy all, I want to remove the rear wheel to replace my rear tire but I don't have the right sockets to remove the axle. I looked in the parts manual and it said the nut was 18mm. I tried a 1" socket on both sides and it was two small. Knowing 1"~= 25mm, it doesn't make sense to me that the nut is 18mm as the book says. And I think (maybe) that the axle head takes a different size socket than the nut?! I need to run to harbor freight and get the right sockets, so if someone can tell me what size sockets it takes to get the rear wheel off, I'd greatly appreciate it! Oh yeah, any insights into chain alignment would be helpful too! Thanks, Joe
  7. Thanks PDSW60! I wasn't meaning to rush you, I just was figgering out how much dinero I was gonna have to sweet talk the wifey for. I'll hang tight!
  8. Did this opportunity fizzle? :icon_shifty:
  9. Shipping to 78255? Preferably by pack mule...starving pack mule.....lame, starving, pack mule would be fine if its cheaper.
  10. I'd be interested in the upper cowl if Sandman backs out! Let me know!! (don't need the headlight tho)
  11. I was considering trying that tire mounting method using the straps (posted on another board linked here). A couple of questions I could use answered before I commit and buy a tire online. (I may be way out of my league on how hard it actually is, so I'll have a back up shop who'll do it if I choke) 1. How hard is it to break the bead on the old, mounted tire? Do you just jump up/down on the old tire til it separates from the rim? 2. Do motorcycle tires need to be balanced? If I were successful at doing the change, would I then have to take it to a garage to get it balanced anyways? Thanks! Joe
