Matt Buckner
Hi everyone, I've acquired a 2000 FI CBR1100XX as part of a work deal. It has been standing outside for 2 years and is quite sun damaged. I've been working on it over the past few days, giving it a new battery and installed a new fuel pump too as the original unit wasn't priming. When i took it out of the tank it was clearly well knackered. I'm very new to these bikes, I've had several R1's Ducatis GSXR's ect but I'm struggling with this beast. It's got fresh fuel, the pump primes when turned on and the starter turns the engine over, however there isn't the slightest hint of any ignition. Can anyone help with any ideas of what the problem could be? The FI light does go out, however the fuel gauge light flashes when turning the engine over. Any help would be so very gratefully appreciated .

rockmeupto125
Hi Matt. Your bike was sitting for 2 years and required a new fuel pump. Did you check the injectors? My guess is that they are near solid with crap, and a squirt of starting fluid into the intake while cranking it with the throttle open should get you a satisfying rumble for a second or two. You're welcome. Private message me for my address. I accept both fossilized unicorn poop and RD250LC's as payment for services.

jon haney
Joes's trick with the starting fluid will let you know if it is a fuel delivery issue, but I would still check the ignition wiring to make sure no rodents have chewed through them. You could also just crank the engine for a few seconds, and then smell the exhaust pipes. If you can't smell any petrol, it's likely the injectors. Also, I would replace the fuel pressure regulator. They are known for problems.
