NoOne65
anyone ever change the spring on the rear shock? I mean actually do it and not pay someone to do it
joblock
I have done it on sv650 GSXR and KLR. All much lighter springs than what is on the Blackbird. I really can't recommend it for anyone who isn't at least a little bit suicidal. It will give you a small taste of what EOD must be like. Like welding on gas tanks it's probably something best left to someone with proper tools and experience. If you're determined to do it yourself PM. me for the details. Furbird
Never on a bird. I've seen the disasters that can occur with auto struts in wall mounted strut compressors when somebody makes one mistake, so there is no way I would try that without having all the proper tools. Some things are better left to the pros.
superhawk996
I don't remember if I've done it on the stock shock, I did on my Penske BB shock. If spinning the preload adjuster out will take the pressure off the spring, which I think it will, it's totally safe.

Absolutely correct. Unfortunately the SV shock uses a ramp type adjuster, no way to completely unload the spring. I found it quite exciting. I knew the SV was a ramp, and that would be a bitch to unload without the proper tools, that's why I felt the need to speak of the adjuster on the BB shock. I don't know if the BB adjuster will unload the spring, but it's safe to try. If you get to the end of the threads and it's still tight, stop and hand it off to a shop. Or aim it at someone you don't like as you turn the adjuster off the last thread. 😆
blackhawkxx
It would be easy to take apart but maybe hard to put together.
