blackhawkxx
I'm thinking of going from Verizon DSL internet to Com Cast. The last time the coaxial cable was used was 2003 for TV only and it is much older so I thought that it would be a good idea to replace the cable from where it comes into the house to desk top, so I bought 50' with the ends on. I found this ground on the old cable, it clamps over the cable with two pins that pierce it. That doesn't seem like a good idea to me. Is the ground for lightning strikes or just a redundant ground for the cable? Is it necessary? I noticed on my Dish Network cable, the connection block is grounded. Edit: The old cable was grounded to a water pipe. Edited July 16, 2020 by blackhawkxx
XXitanium
If I read this right - the pins will pierce into the woven wire coating, not hitting the wire core. Yes, ground everything to one common ground. If you want to get fancy, we used to spec copper ground bus similar to this. https://www.gordonelectricsupply.com/p/Erico-Egba14210Jj-1-4X2X10-Grd-Busbar/6480303
