XXitanium
A friend of mine has one of these at the shed at his cottage. It seems pretty well thought out. http://www.instructables.com/id/A-BETTER-MOUSE-TRAP/?amp_page=true
blackhawkxx
I think this might work when they are in the lean season. Now rats would be too smart for it after 1 or 2 "took the bait".
JoWhee
You don't even need antifreeze just use a garbage can and water, it works for rats also. A 55 gallon can filled to about 1/3 is high enough that they can't jump out. The rats up here must be stupid because my coworker has caught half a dozen. He also used peanut-butter, but he just slathered it on all sides of a piece of Styrofoam and dropped it in.

Quote The rats up here must be stupid because my coworker has caught half a dozen. No doubt but a couple dozen more may have passed on. The more I have been around rats, the more they amaze me by their learning from deaths of their kind.
