side stand switch

Hi this is my first posting so I hope i've got this right. I changed the C&S on my 97 bird, everything went well until i noticed that my side stand light now stays on all the time. The engine cuts out if i leave the s/s down and engage gear, as it should and runs as normal. Its just the light on.

Has anyone ever had this happen to them. I must say I am rather electrically challenged

Cheers

I could not find a schematic for the 97.

Mike is correct, the FI light replaced the S light.

changing chain and sprockets should not have been a issue. I would check the area for pinched or broken wires.

Also, the 97 and FI stand switch numbers are different.  Maybe they had more wires coming off of the older style switch.

One last WAG,. Digital dashes had led lamps. I'm pretty sure that the earlier clusters used bulbs.

Maybe timing is everything?  Open filament bulb?

Will posted many years ago about replacing his bulbs with some neat, blue LED.

Thanks for the replies guys

Aunt Silvia I never disconnected the side stand switch, although I wish I had so I'm going to check to see if any wire has come adrift or as redxxrdr suggests pinched. Who knows maybe the electricians wriggle may well work

Paul99xx, I put C&S as i was just to lazy to write chain and sprocket. My bike is the older carb type

Redxxrdr you are right the older style has 3 wires coming off, one to the clutch switch, one to the ECU and one to the warning light. And there lays my problem why the warning light stays on all the time when the side stand switch obviously works well enough to cut out the engine when put in gear with the stand down.

Problem sorted

Redxxrdr you were right i took off the front sprocket cover and found that I had managed to pinch the wire from the side stand switch when I had replaced the front sprocket (Stupid me I know).

All is good now, I taped up the wire/wire casing with a wicked silicon repair tape my local car parts shop recommended called Quick Tape by a company called Kalimax

Thanks again for all your input
