RichardCranium
Been looking at them on ebay. They can be had fairly reasonably now since the 9500 is out. Is anyone here upgrading and wanting to unload their 8500?
JB4XX
After following you this weekend I think you can save your money. You have no use for a radar detector.
TOXXIC
RC, I have two, and will sell you one. However, you will have to wait until I get back from across the pond.
RichardCranium
After following you this weekend I think you can save your money. You have no use for a radar detector. Tell that to Jim. He was right in front of me. Then again he did have a radar detector. He just got POPed. I was actually wanting it for a trip we are going on in about a week and a half. We probably won't be speeding much but if it saves me from one stupid ticket it will be worth it. RC, I have two, and will sell you one. However, you will have to wait until I get back from across the pond. Cool. Thanks. When ya going to be back?

Thats a heck of an offer. I'd would feel really bad if you got a ticket in the mean time though. Anyone know what the difference is between the older 8500 and the 8500 x50? Is the x50 that much better?
Redbird
I don't need it for driving locally, as I rarely speed enough in the truck to worry about a ticket. Matter of fact, it's still on the bike now. No road trips coming up, so I don't really need it in the immediate future. It's an X-50, BTW, and no, I'm not real clear on the difference. Well in that case ship it on down here. There are a lot of road tax pirates between here and Galveston...particularly on the route we are taking. Thanks. Redbird
It'll go out this week. I think I saw the box in the basement....
rockmeupto125
The x50 has POP detection, as I recall.
TechnoGecko
The x50 has POP detection, as I recall. Correct, the X50 does do POP. But as far as upgrading to the 9500i, I wouldn't do it. A friend of mine bought a 9500i which I asked to borrow. After riding around on it for a week I must say I'm disappointed, in fact I think it's worse than the 8500 X50. You still can't upload points in to the unit via the upload port, and Escort just tells you it's "coming soon" but has no release date scheduled. But even more so than that is the operation of the unit. Sure, it has some cool features like the GPS speed reading, voice alerts, etc - but the actual detection portion I feel is lacking substantially. The unit doesn't "ramp up" in signal strength like the 8500 X50 does, giving you plenty of warning before the signal works its way up the levels. Many times I had the 9500i just come on all of a sudden at 1/2, or 3/4 max signal - practically when I was on top of a cop. I did some reading on the net, and apparently I'm not the only person experiencing this issue either. If it were me, I wouldn't upgrade. Just my two cents though! Jaygermeister
How do you keep them dry on trips. don't tell me, use a baggie.
Redbird
don't tell me, use a baggie. And a zip tie. Don't cheap out on the baggie, either. Heavy ziplocks with the "zips" cut off. Been through some hellacious rain that way and never a problem.
davesXX01
I have the 9500i and it "ramps up" just fine, if the cop has steady on radar. Much better than the 7500 I had. The signal lockout is awsome also. Thinking about getting the 9500ci, when the price comes down. http://www.escortradar.com/9500ci.htm
Redbird
I've done some reading myself. The ramp up issue is apparently early production run models, units produced after 11/07 have had a patch installed. Earlier units can be sent back to Escort for the same patch. Detection is reported to be as good or better than the X50. Once Escort gets around the releasing the USB software, it's looking to be one of the best tools out there for lead footed types. Even without the software, everyone seems to agree it's in the tightly bunched top three.

I thought the only way to get a ticket was to hit someone!

Anyone thats played with one of these earlier units knows what I'm talking about - makes the unit virtually useless....
