Wood veneers

Anyone work with them? Tips?

I want to use Wenge veneer for a bar cabinet I'm making. The bar itself will be real Wenge and Zebrawood, but the "box" where the keg fridge will go is pretty big and it makes a lot more sense to use veneer over ply than gluing up some large hardwood panels. I'm thinking about something real simple, mitered corners and an overhanging top so there are no edges to finish. This will be 24x24" and 36" tall. Two sides will be visible and covered with veneer. One side will be open. The third side will only be partially visible so I figure I'll do veneer on that portion only.

Attach with contact cement. Put painters tape on the edges of the veneer and cut with a razor knife through the tape tp prevent splintering. If you are doing a large area and need to position it precisely, you can lay fishing line between the plywood and veneer in close looping rows, position the veneer and pull out the fishing line letting the 2 parts come together. Use a roller to work out air pockets. It is similar to laminate installs. If your veneer will over hang the edges, you can trim it with a router.
